Thought i start a new thread for the 2yos this year which horses have impressed you guys so far mine are
POWER.Won quite nice on debut be intresting to see where they go next with him.
REMEMBER ALEXANDRA.2nd behind Power but was going very nice in the race but could not get near winner. She win a maiden next time
PARISH HALL.A teofilo 2yo this trainer will have lots of these 2yos this year.Won nice on debut 2nd and 3rd have won since and is entered for Phoniex stakes and derby as well.
REQUINTO.Showed lots of speed on debut at 6f but was worn down in the end by the above horse. Then has won 2 races at 5f i like to see this horse in the Nunthorpe the weight this horse get and the early speed as well.
MISS WORK OF ART is 2 from 2 and beat Magic City though that horse has sore shins but still very good performance by her
May 5, 2011 at 19:12 #353960Power will win the Railway + probably the Phoenix too. No horse has qualified on my Coventry trends yet.
I originally said I wouldn’t go through the Derby entries til the end of the season, but I’ve had great fun doing this year’s + it’s proved relatively successful. Hopefully World Domination will make it very successful. Will look at the Arc entries first (released imminently) + then onto the Derby. Will take about a fortnight, depending on how much I have to do/how bored I am.
May 5, 2011 at 21:28 #353974Tough As Nails, very impressive at Tipperary although with a small trainer so there may be limitations
Remember Alexander, considering how worked up she was in the parade ring and missed the start would expect her to beat Power if they meet again.
May 8, 2011 at 22:42 #354530Something badly needs to get onto the racecourse asap because right now the Royal Ascot juveniles aren’t looking great. I don’t think anything new popped up over the weekend and 2 of the top 3 juveniles on RPRs are fillies.
May 9, 2011 at 09:25 #354580Tough as Nails is the best irish 2yr old Colt by a long way so far.
The O Brien Power won a maidan at HQ but cost 50,000 Guineas and every chance he go the wrong way now..especially since the 2nd had a horror race.
Requinto looked fairly good @ Cork. Few Maidens at Cork and Gowran this week should give a guide from the Irish point of view
May 10, 2011 at 19:17 #354859Watch out for the Teofilo filly that was 2nd to Power. She’s meant to be serious.Ive heard Hannon has serious 2 year olds by Strategic Prince too.He described one as an Aeroplane!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 10, 2011 at 21:53 #354879Friday’s opener at Newbury is the maiden in which Canford Cliffs and Strong Suit were introduced to the public and Hannon has Airbourne Again (Acclamation), Jacob Cats (Dutch Art), Mr Knightley (Strategic Prince), Poole Harbour (Elusive City) and Trumpet Major (Arakan) entered.
The first named has already had an outing and ran to a RPR of 68. Not good enough. Trumpet Major only holds the one entry whereas Jacob Cats holds by far the best entries. We’ll know more tomorrow lunchtime.
Basically I’m desperate for something to turn up and put in a decent performance because I’ve picked out the last 2 winners, even called Strong Suit a banker, yet didn’t have a penny on either of them.
May 10, 2011 at 23:14 #354886Well I’m only 170 entries in, but award for Unlikelist Derby 2012 winner goes to a Motivator colt out of Logic, a maiden, with a damsire stamina index of 12.5 (a combined sire-damsire stamina index of 24.1), and foaled on May 9th. Logic put in a personal best RPR of 91 and has produced just 1 blacktype horse from 8 tries (2 resorted to running over the sticks), the blacktype coming in a 14f Group 3 in a foreign country (KSA? South Africa?) after having run to a personal best of 91RPR in 23 career runs in the UK.
If he wins a race, any race, at less than 11 1/2 furlongs, I will put £50EW on his next start, with 50% of any winnings going to The Injured Jockey’s Fund and the remaining 50% going to Cancer Research.
Aidan O’Brien’s got an awful lot of January Galileo colts. An awful lot.
May 10, 2011 at 23:28 #354887A June foal! June!!!!!! June!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the breeder? Rather predictable I’m afraid. Darley. Insane amount of May (and obviously June…) foals come from them I’ve seen so far.
May 11, 2011 at 00:08 #354890Ok, from the opening 207 entries, I’ve done a very rough count through the Bin Suroor and Darley-bred entrants I’ve found. 12 such horses I think (I’ll double check this when I’ve been through all 480 odd), of which 8 are late-April, May or June foals.
It really annoys me when you’ve got good mares who produce good horses going to good stallions and they just completely screw up the time. Absolutely no excuse for it. 2 of the mares were placed in Grade/Group 1s and have produced 3 blacktypes from 7 runners. Such a waste.
Quite a few Galileo-Danehill crosses in the entries but haven’t seen any other of the nicks that have worked out so well unless I’ve missed them. Not even 1 King’s Best and only 2 Dubawis.
May 11, 2011 at 02:09 #354893Ok, have done about 100 horses in the past couple of hours. Best-bred horse – easy. Full-brother to Genius Beast. Feb 24th foal. Unfortunately no black-type in the dam’s dam, but Group 1 winners everywhere else in the past 2 generations. A concern he’ll go to Bin Suroor exists, but he’s an exciting horse.
The Aga Khan for some reason sent 2 of his Group 1 performers to Dr Fong. Cannot for the life of me understand that, but Shamadara and Shamdala both went to him.
Half-brother to Workforce by Halling (urgh, what a waste), full-brother to Hong Kong Derby winner Collection, full-brothers to both Frankel and World Domination, though the latter’s a May 20th foal. The Frankel brother’s a February 25th foal, very nice.
Half-bro to Rumplestiltskin, half-bro to Awzaan and Ouija Board’s got another one there. But why in the name of Joseph, Mary and Jesus did they send her to possibly the stoutest bred flat sire there is, Monsun? Total waste.
Gossamer’s been a great source of good horses, both of hers have been blacktype/RPR100+ performers. She’s got a colt by Dubai Destination who’s been a total flop though.
Aidan’s got a Galileo-Storm Cat colt. Very interesting cross.
May 11, 2011 at 02:46 #354894A June foal! June!!!!!! June!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the breeder? Rather predictable I’m afraid. Darley. Insane amount of May (and obviously June…) foals come from them I’ve seen so far.
Nothing wrong with late-season foals. There’s been plenty of May and June colts that have won the Kentucky Derby and other classic races.
May 11, 2011 at 13:01 #354930The American breeding system isn’t even close to being in sync with us. Not even close.
Please note that I don’t have French foaling dates, but the last 6 May foals to win English or Irish Classics were all fillies and several late-April foals also won 1 too, but fillies progress and winter differently to colts.
The last 3 colts to win 1 were High Rise (Derby, 98), Zagreb (Irish Derby, 96) and Spectrum (Irish 2000, 95). Horses foaled in May have a colossal disadvantage for the first half of the season, if not the whole season.
May 11, 2011 at 17:10 #354966Very good performance by Maybe tonight….not much of her but should be followed until beaten i would have thought
May 11, 2011 at 17:22 #354969Choir just after winning as well. Looked a much bigger scopey sort that the filly that just won earlier. Head in the air and did have a nice change of gear.
Interesting
May 11, 2011 at 17:55 #354976Curragh Guineas week a10 days away will be very interesting re: 2yr olds.
May 11, 2011 at 19:28 #354988Choir’s been introduced to a maiden that was won by Steinbeck and Zoffany in the past 2 years. South Dakota finished 2nd in 2007 and Eagle Mountain came 5th in 2006.
That said, he’s not that well bred. His dam’s produced 3 previous runners and not one of them made it higher than 76RPR, including a full-brother to Choir.
Maybe’s very interesting. Aidan’s introduced Heart Shaped, Lillie Langtry and Together into this maiden, none of which won. 2 of the 3 ran at Royal Ascot. She’s another example of a Galileo-Danehill cross going nicely and I’m absolutely livid I’ve spent the last 3 hours going through the 2012 Derby and not looking at Naas now that I’ve seen that. Especially since I thought Banimpire was a penalty kick. Livid.
