Mall Dini is an interesting one
presumably missed Cheltenham with this the target
Him and Rathvindin would be my two against the field

Can’t remember if you lay Nathan, Mall Dini still looks a great back to lay price I reckon.

    Rathvinden looks rock solid.

I was in the “understudy” role to GT last year, so I’ll leave the gig to him this year if he’s doing one.

You’re no understudy, VTC. Go for it! Besides, I haven’t the time to do it justice this year so will leave it to the man in form. :good:

    Hi gang,
    If GINGERTIPSTER is around,
If you take a look at GO CONQUER’S performance in the SKYBET CHASE,I think you’ll find that was a dogged performance, were he raced up with the pace, was headed for a fair bit of the race but came back for more and won,no one knows if he’ll last 4m2f but that can be said for the majority of the field……. :good:

The exchanges are doing the talking for Up For Review’s chances and I’m getting less optimistic that he’ll line up by the day. I don’t have a dime on him yet for Fairyhouse so that’d be a kick in the balls if there’s decent money for him there. I’m convinced he’s a ridiculously well handicapped animal and, if he does line up here, I’d still fancy him massively.

True, Go Conquer didn’t lead throughout, Bobbyjo; but did have a clear view of fences even when not leading. In the past he’s tended to jump well in those circumstances, but hasn’t been the same when racing in behind horses. You might think it was a dogged performance, but was racing against Monbeg River – even less of a stayer than GC… at a meeting that seemed to favour those ridden prominently… on ground favouring speed. Of course nobody knows for sure if he’ll stay 4m2f, but up to now imo speed rather than stamina seems his best asset. In my experience very few of this type go on to stay the Grand National trip, but anything is possible.

I wouldn’t back Go Conquer to stay 3m2f, let alone 4m2f74yrds.
tbh I don’t look at out and out stayers In the Grand National unless it’s very soft. On good or good-soft I look more for 3m2f horses than those needing extreme distances to show their best. Might seem strange, but those needing 3m6f+ on soft/heavy going often find the Aintree Grand National too much of a test of speed. Average speed of a goodish ground Aintree Grand National over 4m2f74yrds is often faster than a Welsh Grand National run on very soft over 3m5f110yrds at Chepstow.

For those of you that thought Don Poli was not GATG and was a plot job, O’Leary is selling him next Thursday along with Outlander.

I was thinking the same thing! They’re probably the only likely purchasers- Giggi only offload horses when they’ve squeezed all the juice out of them so tbe Thompsons are probably the only people who could afford to buy a 10 or 11 year old gelding just to see their colours going over the spruce for two laps.

Unless David Maxwell fancies doing a couple of extra laps this year and maybe still having it in his stable of hunter chasers next season.

Would either still be likely to run? And if they did byy them who would be their primary trainer?

Can’t say I am surprised that BDM is not running – the Gold Cup didn’t scream to me that he wanted to go any further and his more favoured underfoot conditions would have placed more emphasis on his suspect stamina at the trip.

    Right decision made by connections.
