Like the plate, entries due out this week, and if The Plate is difficult enough, then this race can be a proper minefield.
Trainer seems negative on Joey Sasa following up his Grimes Hurdle win, now that he has a penalty, but I’m not so sure, and thought he advertised serious claims alright.
Behind him that night, was a horse a few of us discussed, and that was the JP owned Plinth. He’s bound to be a price, and with him sure to get an entry, it’ll be interesting to see what he opens at.
This is a race which JP tends to flood, and last years winner, Tigris River, could be a bit of a forgotten horse, but it’s another pair of his, which I’m wanting to see in there.
Le Richebourg had a fine summer in 2017, and he’s shaped ever since, as if he was running with a big handicap in mind. He’s from top yard, and with conditions bound to suit surely, he’s high on the list, even before entries are revealed. I seen enough from him in defeat last year, to keep me interested.
Similar sentiments apply to Project Bluebook, who was sixth in it last year. Had a spin on the flat last week, and though I’m undecided as to whether that might have been a sighter for The Cesarewitch, he’ll surely be given the option here as well. He’s another who’ll surely get his ground here.
Purely early thoughts just now, but even without the entries, I’d be very interested in Le Richebourg, and Project Bluebook.

and, I’ve had an early go on the two main fancies of mine, Le Richebourg, and Project Bluebook. Weather looks mixed, which certainly won’t be in their favour, but I just like the pair of them, and suspect that they’re very well treated. The 25’s didn’t last long for Bluebook, and wish I had more on now. If I can get 20’s, I’ll top up. I was close to adding the other one I really liked, Plinth, and that 33’s surely can’t last. Very much like last season though, being very strict with Ante-Post stakes, and just got to be careful. May add him in the next 24 hours, but got to make sure I leave more to stake on the day.
Other who jump out early doors, are…….
Joey Sasa
Lagostovegas
Blazer
Ancient Sands
On The Go Again
Top Othe Ra
Uradelbut for now, with Plinth very much considered, the early plays are….
Project Bluebook 25’s Win
Le Richebourg 16’s Win(edit topped up 25’s and 20’s each way)
July 26, 2018 at 21:28 #1361131Le Richebourg has shortened a good deal so you made the right choice getting on.
Plinth is out to 40s on b365 so having yakked on about him I went ahead and backed him. Hope the drift is just a reflection of money for other horses rather than negative vibes.

July 29, 2018 at 13:26 #1361438Yeah Grass, as low as 6’s now, so happy with the 20’s. Now just to actually win the bloody thing lol. Forecast is still a worry.
July 29, 2018 at 23:55 #1361472Had another go, this time on Blazer at 16s. Don’t think he’ll get into the Plate and they might run him here rather than the consolation race.
July 31, 2018 at 07:41 #1361576Only had 1 bet so far
VOIX DU REVE 16/1 EW
I think he’s coming right and still unexposed. Just worried about soft ground for him. I think he will be riden Positively
August 1, 2018 at 04:53 #1361741My second selection is Brelade. I Think he’s well handicapped on this novice form and yard are comin back into form. At 25/1 EW i think he’s over priced
August 2, 2018 at 02:27 #1361863I’ve gone through the race and was originally very tempted with Cartwright and he’s been backed all day but I’ve left him alone in the end.
I’ve been a long term supporter of Whiskey Sour and had him for a chunk when he was third in the County Hurdle. He liked the ground that day I thought as when the pace quickened he was still going well on the bridle. When he cut through the field so easily, I was adamant he was going to win by 5 lengths. Whether he just didn’t stay properly or just isn’t as good as I think he is, he finished third.
Now having gone through the race in detail here, I can’t find anything that I think will beat him. Which leaves me with the ‘boring’ bet of going for the favourite in a big field handicap.
I might have a decent bet on him here though. Six places each way is decent cover should something beat him. I can’t see him outside the top four at the very most.
Whiskey Sour each way @ 7/1
August 2, 2018 at 10:44 #1361887Concur with Whiskey Sour, he’s a decent sort and is still off a very workable mark. Ground won’t be a problem, 2 miles is his trip, I’d be surprised if he’s not in the mix turning for home.
His price is contracting, I wouldn’t want less than 7’s.
August 2, 2018 at 10:51 #1361888Haven’t really looked at this race till just now but, from what I’ve read on here it should be renamed ‘Mo’s Cliff Horse Race’. They’re all there! Bit of a dilemma….
August 2, 2018 at 13:16 #1361910Cartwright for me e/w @ 12/1
August 2, 2018 at 13:21 #1361914Bobby, you’re a sucker for that Bluebook, yet I can’t write him off myself.
I’ll bet two here, and my first one like many here is Whiskey Sour to win at 7-1 with Boylesports
August 2, 2018 at 13:29 #1361918Could easily back 10 here
Voix Du Reve @ 25/1 for me
August 2, 2018 at 13:52 #1361922Project Bluebook 16/1
Thought he wanted better ground but Quinn doesn’t seem too concerned and think he can outrun his odds from the bottom of the weights.August 2, 2018 at 15:54 #1361945Ivanovitch Gorbatov 22-1 + Tigris River 14-1 for me here
August 2, 2018 at 15:55 #1361946I didn’t have one looked out early for this, I’m going to have a bit of interest
with The Game Changer at 50/1. He’s back down to the mark
he won off at Down Royal. This is a lot tougher, but maybe Davy Russell can get
him into a nice rhythm and if he finishes in the 1st 5 I’ll be happy with that. - AuthorPosts
