Small matter of Aintree to deal with, but thought I’d get the thread up an running, here are the entries……
https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/3/ayr/2017-04-22/671145
No point looking at those engaged at Aintree just now, but a few catch the eye on first glance.
Fine Rightly 33’s
I’ve flagged this horse up a few times on here, and I’m convinced he has a big prize in him. For every time I’ve flagged him up, I’ve invariably lost a few quid, as he rarely makes the gig. Travelled like a dream behind Douvan earlier in the season, over too short a trip, and has plenty of other runs which would bring him into this. 33’s is big (for a horse who actually makes it lol)Kruzhlinin 33’s
I like this horse a lot, and was kicking myself when he won The Fixed Brush Hurdle, as he was on a very select shortlist, but I didn’t have a bean on him. Connections have sensibly given up on Aintree, he just doesn’t like it, and he’d be my #1. I think he has a huge chance, and I think he’ll love it round here.Folsom Blue
Would have taken a hand here last year but for being brought down. Took a backward step last time, but he was great the time before. He’s always been unpredictable, but on my radar nonetheless.Henri Parry Morgan
Almost a year now since I bet him for Aintree this year, but his season has been a disaster, with jumping issues not helping. I wasn’t surprised when he wasn’t entered for The National. Not one for an Ante-Post, but I’ll keep an eye on him, as the trainer likes it here, and he certainly won’t be 25’s on the day.Seeyouatmidnight
Trained specifically for this race, and this is his level, and we’ll hopefully not see him in a G1 again. Live chance, I will bet him, but it will definitely be on the day.I’ve bet Fine Rightly, and Kuzhlinin at 33’s, and keen on the pair of them, with Kruzhlinin my definite #1, I really think this is the perfect race for him.
April 10, 2017 at 12:00 #1296353I always give David Pipe runners a second look in this, and a couple of his catch the eye.
What A Moment was bang there in The 4 Miler, before being eased down when his chance had gone. I just wonder of the rider was instructed not to bottom him out once his chance had gone. Certainly looks big at 50’s.
Rathlin Rose could easily be forgotten given the exploits of his rider, Capt Guy Disney, but the horse itself has also done the business, and he’s another of interest at 25’s.
April 10, 2017 at 13:11 #1296362I know it was before One for Arthur was tongue tied, but See you at midnight slaughtered him at Kelso.
April 10, 2017 at 13:46 #1296365He sure did Moe, I just hope SYAM is fully fit now for this, following his setback.
April 10, 2017 at 17:38 #1296400Paul Nicholls has confirmed that last years winner Vicente, will go here following his early exit at Aintree.
April 14, 2017 at 00:44 #1296670I like Fine Rightly too- he knows his way round this course, jumps, should stay OK and will be fresh for this. His mark might be a bit high but I suppose they wouldn’t be contemplating putting him on the boat if they thought he didn’t have a chance. He doesn’t have any other entries so I went ahead and took the 33-1 E/W and put him in an E/W double with Haymount 25-1 for the Irish National.
I might have another bet after the final decs/NRNB as there are too many who might swerve this for the bet365 and I’m not au fait enough with owner/trainer preferences etc to know what’s likely to go where.
April 14, 2017 at 00:56 #1296672Shame to hear that Seeyouatmidnight will miss the race. I thought he had every chance of improving on last year’s effort.

Ran an absolute stormer last year. Would have been all over him again next week!
April 14, 2017 at 17:38 #1296743Won’t be the same without Midnight, was really looking forward to seeing him, and he would surely have went very close.
I hope they’re careful with him, and don’t rush him back for the sake of it. Providing that run at Haydock hasn’t ruined him, they should have a very well handicapped horse on their hands for next season.
April 15, 2017 at 17:21 #1296933Watch your bets
Le Mercurey
Saphir Du Rheu
Shantou Flyerare still priced up with various firms, but look as if they may not be going.
April 16, 2017 at 23:55 #1297080My two on initial looking are VYTA DU ROC at 25/1 fifth in the race last year and now eight pound lower!!
And FINAL NUDGE who was going all right when he fell two out in the Midlands national and I think would have been involved 33/1.
April 17, 2017 at 13:58 #1297149Vyta du Roc not among 5 day decs – would have thought he had a decent chance and I was looking to back him for this but being kept fresh for Sandown I suppose.
I’ve added Straidnahanna 50-1 E/W; not sure he has the class to win but should jump and stay long enough to give me a run for my money.
April 18, 2017 at 07:00 #12972484 make my shortlist
Missed Approach 16/1
Vivaldi Collognes 25/1
Shotgun Paddy 20/1
Southfield Royale 14/1Let’s see if I can make it a grand national treble!
April 18, 2017 at 13:04 #1297285I don’t think there is a standout at the moment for this, but I Could make a case for Virak Dancing Shadow + Henri Parry Morgan. I am going to do small win bets on them around 33-1, + do them each way with place bonuses on Saturday morning
April 18, 2017 at 18:04 #1297302Backed four at big prices ew; Vintage Clouds (16s) – Fine Rightly (33s) and Blakemount (50s)
April 18, 2017 at 19:23 #1297306Good plan, I don’t think you can go too far wrong with Sue Smith’s horses and I’ve followed you with a small win bet on Blakemount at the 50s.
I really like Vintage Clouds too and think he will probably go here rather than the Novice’s handicap for which he is also entered. He seems quite handily weighted for both but expect will go for the bigger race given his owner’s desire to win Nationals and the fact that he has run very respectably in open company this season. My only concern would be that he’s probably had some pretty hard races as a result; his fall in the Ultima looked a bit tired rather than clumsy to me. I suppose if he’s as tough as his sire’s most famous offspring he’ll still give it socks; and perhaps the pace of the longer race (the 3 mile novice looks hot enough) will mean he doesn’t run the legs off himself.
April 19, 2017 at 02:08 #1297341I’ll have to have a small saver on Blakemount as well. Put him in my Ten To Follow, as I reckon he had a decent prize in him this season. He hasn’t quite lived up to that, but I’d be kicking myself if I missed out.
I’ve added Portrait King at 33’s to Kruzhlinin, and Fine Rightly. I totally wrote him off in The Topham, but he ran a blinder, showing him to be still in decent form, despite his advancing years. This trip should see him to even better effect. If he’s still a decent price come Saturday, then he looks a must for topping up for 5 or 6 places.
