Maybe not the classiest renewal ever, but it’s still a cracking line up, and looks ultra competitive, and really looking forward to it.

I’ve a feeling Brain Power might be worth another go here at 15-2, as he’s clearly had an off day at Cheltenham. Wouldn’t be going mad on him, as I could make a case for any of these, but a few quid won’t hurt.
I’ll have a bit more though on my old pal Ivan Grozny. His season didn’t pan out as I’d hoped, and he was very poor last time. I believe he’s much better than that showing though, and he’s my main bet at 40’s each way.
April 27, 2017 at 18:36 #1298539I would go for Arctic Fire but I am afraid of the bounce factor after his Cheltenham win, Diakali will also be dangerous if they let him get away with an easy lead – not sure what to think about Vroum Vroum Mag, I fully expected her to get revenge on Apples Jade at Cheltenham but connection did say she return back from Doncaster a sick horse and that may have hampered her preparations.
If there was any justice you wouldn’t begrudge My Tent a well overdue win but having taken in both Cheltenham and Aintree again this year I feel it might be one race too many like it was last year.
Think Mullins will probably win it but with the way Ruby’s luck has been going you would have short odds on him to finish second again.
April 27, 2017 at 22:13 #1298566I’ll take a chance on Vroum Vroum Mag repeating the dose and claiming back-to-back renewals. 5/1 seems more than fair.
Also, take note that Davy Russell replaces Jack Kennedy on Labaik and a visor will be tried for the first time on the grey.
April 27, 2017 at 22:57 #1298569I’ve also gone for VVM. Suspect she was still recovering from virus at Chelt. She must be going well at home now or they would have run her in the mares not this, they must have had an inkling that Annie wasn’t going to make it to the latter.
April 27, 2017 at 23:07 #1298570I noted that Charles, and if anyone can get him to start, I reckon Davy (tough
as nails) Russell is the man. I might be barking mad doing this, but I couldn’t
resist having a bit of the 16/1 with SkyBet. If he starts, he should be a quarter
that price, but it’s a HUGE “if”. It might just be a very short race for meApril 27, 2017 at 23:19 #1298571Do you think Davy Russell has selected his longest stick and is busy attaching a carrot to the end of it? If Labaik starts it’ll blow them away I reckon.
April 27, 2017 at 23:41 #1298572I should have added that I think that RASHAAN is over priced at 50/1.
Admittedly when he beat Apples Jade (giving him 2lbs) and Petit Mouchoir at Down Royal
in November, he was the race fit horse and the other two very likely needed the race,
but nonetheless he did it in some style. He showed he was still in fine fettle when he
won next time out in February on the flat at Dundalk over 2m. He ran later that month
at Gowran Park over 2m and he seemed to hit a bit of a flat spot before he finished well,
closing on both Jezki (odds on) and Tombstone at the death. He was only just over 1L behind
Jezki and a further 4L behind Tombstone. Considering he was giving both of them 8lb, that was
a pretty decent effort. He last appeared at Aintree, and gave me the impression he didn’t
enjoy it there at all. I also don’t think the extra 4f was his thing. Back at 2m, and on
home soil, I can see him giving a decent performance and I think the 50/1 4 places 1/5
the odds with SkyBet is worth the taking.April 27, 2017 at 23:43 #1298573Do you think Davy Russell has selected his longest stick and is busy attaching a carrot to the end of it? If Labaik starts it’ll blow them away I reckon.
If that’s what it takes to get him going greenasgrass, I’m all for it
April 28, 2017 at 08:33 #1298586Labaik might do better with the visor on his back and Russell sitting on his head
I’d never bet anything with confidence after the Festival. It’s become a bullseye that’s grown bigger than the target and even horses who haven’t run there are subject to some horse doing later what it was meant to do at Cheltenham.
But I need to back Brain Power having put so much faith in him for the CH. There’s no way he ran his race that day, but that was at least partly due to being too keen for too long in the race and that could happen again today. But I’ll take my chances.
April 28, 2017 at 11:27 #1298610Even if Labaik consented to race this time,I’m not sure he would be good enough to beat these.
Arctic Fire for me. Winning off top weight after a lengthy absence at Cheltenham takes some doing and,as long as he doesn’t bounce,6/1 looks a big price.
Petit Mouchoir the danger, can’t have VVM at all.
April 28, 2017 at 11:32 #1298615Petit Mouchoir now a Non Runner.
Having been with him at Cheltenham, and also this week, I couldn’t let him go unbacked here, and I covered Labaik at 14’s last night. I’ve topped up Ivan Grozny 50’s at 4 places with Sky.
Labaik and Brain Power will be smaller returns, as not going mad, but I’ll be hoping for a miracle from Ivan.
April 28, 2017 at 11:49 #1298620Labaik will start today; he only starts when the Mo millions are down and today (having got the iPad to work) the usual 2pence each way is resting on his shoulders. I wouldn’t mess with Davy#scaryguy and I’m sure Labiak has met his match (ditto the jockeys that will try to scramble Labaiks fragile head).
April 28, 2017 at 11:50 #1298621…also money on Ivan….(the Gardner here is called Ivan)…..
April 28, 2017 at 17:18 #1298678My Tent Or Yours is very consistent. I expect a great effort here. Small win & loaded place.
April 28, 2017 at 18:08 #1298684So the other little monkey wins; relieved to find that I did put a few pennies on him as he’s one of those horses that I have to back ‘just in case’ but invariably forget to when he’s on a going day. Ran a stormer at Cheltenham after a very tardy start. VtC; hope you were on the notsobrave Brave today. Sounds as though Labial ran a fine race. Only Arctic Fire, who’s all heart stopped it being a rout for the loveable dodgepots!
April 28, 2017 at 18:20 #1298686To be fair to Wicklow Brave he doesn’t lack heart as he had every opportunity to bottle it after the last after taking off like a loon mid race – don’t forget he beat an Ascot Gold Cup winner on the flat.
Thought it was ironic that Diakali was the grey that caused the problems by refusing to start but credit to the plan to have Labaik up against the rail with horses all round him to encourage him to start.
April 28, 2017 at 18:31 #1298688The others will cite the winner’s past form, blinkers, blah, blah, blah…reality is young Mullins outrode them and nicked it
