Kicking myself a wee bit for not having more on him, but deliberately kept my Ante-Post stakes low for Ascot this year, so it’s only in a couple of Multi’s, but very keen on Orderofthegarter here, and bar Bossy Guest, every leg is still to play, so hoping for some return at the 12’s and 14’s. I’ve topped up on him win only at 7’s and 8’s.
I rarely catch much Flat Action at the start of the season, but this boy did impress me, so hoping he can get the ball rolling for me in the Perms after Bossy Guests dismal display today.
June 21, 2017 at 19:21 #1305434Have to hope you are right Bobby have backed Order myself but also am on Bay Of Poets who I think was also outclassed in the French Derby and at 11/1 has to be close to Order in this!!
June 22, 2017 at 01:15 #1305511Very little between Orderofthegarter and Taj Mahal. Biggest difference is the price. Wouldn’t have been an easy decision for Moore. 16/1 is a great price
June 22, 2017 at 06:16 #1305528So so trappy. My head is spinning with this.
Orderofthegarter feels solid enough, deserves to be marked up as better than Taj Mahal after a bit of an unlucky passage through the French Derby. Still, he’s probably short enough for a Ballydoyle second division horse.
You’d be brave to steam into a Saeed bin Suroor horse at the moment and his Benbatl looks a tricky ride down in trip.
I’ll take two darts against the field with:
Irishcorrespondent – ran a brave race in the Irish Guineas and doesn’t deserve to be that much bigger than Orderofthegarter if you compare their Classic form. He’ll improve up in trip and would probably be shorter if he had sexier connections.Bay Of Poets – there is a very good horse in there somewhere. Maybe gelding is the answer. I’ve had a few quid on just to make sure I’m on in case he finally puts it all together today.
June 22, 2017 at 07:13 #1305535Mirage dancer
June 22, 2017 at 07:58 #1305539There was a lot of purring about the way Mirage Dancer stayed on over the extended 1m2f at Chester and eyes were immediately drawn to the St. Leger betting. Sticking to 1m2f here has confused me a bit.
I like Benbatl, he showed a bit of class in an underwhelming Derby and had the pace to be prominent all the way on good to soft in the Dante before being picked off.
I agree that Irish Correspondent would be shorter but for the connections and he looks the biggest danger for me.I’d be worried about fast ground for Orderofthegarter, any rain would be welcome at Ascot today for him.
Benbatl 9/2 e/w
June 22, 2017 at 08:26 #1305543Benbatl at 9/2 to win for me
June 22, 2017 at 08:46 #1305552Orderofthegarter @ 14’s and 8’s
Mightily unlucky in the French Derby i thought.
June 22, 2017 at 12:52 #1305583I backed Tamleek in the Chester Vase and I don’t think he got home that day. He wasn’t far behind Wings Of Eagles that day and dropping to 10F should suit. He was deliberately left out of the Derby to come here instead and then have a summer campaign.
Tamleek was most impressive when winning his maiden on Good to Firm ground, sluicing in by 4 lengths and 5 winners have come from that race. His profile less exposed than most here. He doesn’t have a lot to find and at 7/1 he was the only one I could feasibly back with any sense of some value.
Tamleek 7/1 for Goldolphin and Jim Crowley
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 22, 2017 at 13:25 #1305589Tamleek is being backed but like Mirage Dance I still think has it all to prove whereas Benbatl has already shown he’s more than up to winning a Group 3 by running a cracker in The Derby and he’s my main bet at 9/2. Considering I backed Orderofthegarter in both of his French Classic runs it would be folly to dismiss the colt now back down in class so I’ve had a smaller bet on the O’Brien horse at 13/2.
June 22, 2017 at 14:13 #1305608Of the Godolphin horses: Lost Soldier has put Bay Of Poets chance succinctly, that’s one I’ve backed. Appleby is also in better form than Bin-Surror. That’s the main reason why I’ve only made Benbatl a saver and not backed Tamleek. Former got the best form and – understandably – ridden to get the Derby trip. Should be at least as good down to 10f, but this comes pretty quick after Epsom. Judging from TV, Tamleek looked the pick of the paddock at Chester (including the eventul Derby winner). Can see why some good judges are going for the SBS second-string. Appeared not to stay the Chester Vase trip and I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins this; however I wonder if it could be temperament as much as distance that stopped him last time.
Mirage Dancer didn’t get the best of runs at Chester in the Dee Stakes when finishing 3 1/2 lengths behind Derby second Cliffs Of Mohar (2 behind Bay Of Poets). Talked of as a Derby horse, not sure to stay that trip on excellent breeding (has potential) – by Frankel from an important mile/mile and a quarter French family of Banks Hill and Dansili (amongst others). Fact he missed Epsom a considerable positive and Stoutey is in good form. Should be favourite and around 11/2 is a good bet.
Irishcorrespondant was 3rd to Churchill, but was 7 lengths behind and hasn’t run on anything like this ground. Ground is a worry about Mucho Applause too. However, it’s possible could get the run of the race in front here and has run really well in two handicaps under big weights. Wouldn’t be out of the question to see him take the step up in class if acting on this surface, 27/1 worth a wager.
French Derby form is difficult to make much of, when 2 1/4 lengths separated the first 7 home; they can’t all be good. Taj Mahal 4th did best of them, but ridden more prominently than most that reoppose here. Coolmore seem to believe he was flattered judging by jockey bookings. Now blinkered for the first time and overall record suggests temperament. Orderofthegarter 6th is Moore’s mount today, held up in France – made all in 2000 Trial and my do better ridden prominently. Got to take on trust he’ll act on the going so I’ve made him only a saver. Market suggests connections have no worries on that score, but majority of Coolmore horses have been backed this week. 7th Bay Of Poets and he’s over twice the price of the Ballydoyle horse, would not have been suited by a slow pace there and has been gelded.
I’ve backed Mirage Dancer 11/2, Bay Of Poets 11/1, Mucho Applause 28/1 with savers on Benbatl 9/2 and Orderofthegarter 5/1.
