Last year we held the inaugural Champions Day Challenge Competition in what was to be an annual event playing against Talkinghorses on Champions Day at Ascot.. Diamond Geezer won’t be around to score that day (October 21st) but I’m sure we can find someone to score this year from TRF. Can anyone interested in playing please add your name below.
below is a link to last years thread so you can see what’s involved, basically just picking a horse in each race. 16 players would be ideal.

October 9, 2017 at 14:16 #1320841Just in case this is missed in the Horse Racing Forum, as it is a very active forum
and things disappear down the list quickly, I thought I’d copy my response to Diamond
Geezer, and his reply, so that if anyone fits the bill for DG’s request they might respond.BigG wrote :-
Thanks for that DG, that’s a fair enough way to pick a captain. It wouldn’t have been
a bother putting myself forward for a Captain, with both Nathan and Jac, the obvious
choices, being unavailable. The problem I would have, and the reason I hung back, is
that if you were looking for one person as captain AND marker you really need someone
with a foot in both camps, ie registered in both forums to update both as it goes along.
To be honest, I’m quite happy just being in TRF, it does take up a fair bit of my spare
time, both contributing and following what’s going on. Hopefully someone who is in both
TRF and TH might be able to manage the marking role. It’s a great idea for a competition
and I’m grateful to yourself and Nathan for kicking it off last year

Thanks BigG
I was hoping someone from TRF would score this year as I did it last year, but as you say that person ideally needs to be able to post on both forums.
Anyone ?
—————————————————October 10, 2017 at 00:32 #1320900Re the ongoing “marker saga” and with some at the racing that day, I posted
this in the Horse Racing Forum……….As it happens, I’ll also be away, but I’m not at the racing and if it came to
the bit I could try and stay in one place long enough to attempt scoring. It
wouldn’t be ideal, but I wouldn’t like to see Diamond Geezer and Nathan stuck
for lack of a scorer. I’m still hopeful that someone, as I mentioned before,
with a foot in both camps could ideally take this on. If that doesn’t appear to
be on the cards, the best I could offer is trying to keep things going, and as
Nathan suggested, someone from TH would have to copy and paste over any updates
on the scores that I post. Spread sheets are not my thing, so it would be half
an A4 pad, 2 pencils and a rubber (and a house measure of Glenmorangie) to keep
it going. That’s the best I can offer DG if there isn’t anyone available. Hopefully someone
might yet step forward, that would certainly keep Mrs BigG happy as we’re supposed
to be visiting “interesting places”. Failing that, I’ll do my best to be available.October 11, 2017 at 00:08 #1321009I can do the scores DG for TRF picks but do not have access to TH picks.

It looks like we are both in the same boat Raymo, in that we can’t post results in the TH
Forum as neither of us are registered there. It’s easy enough to see their picks, you don’t
need to be a member to look at their forum, and vice versa. I would have been able to work
out and post the standings of both teams, to see how the pairing were doing against each other,
but someone from there would have had to copy my posts and paste them in the TH Forum so they
were equally aware. But hold that thought Raymo, if you have a look on the TRF V TH thread in
the Horse Racing Forum here, you will see that after my posts to DG, he has commented that
“We may have someone who could help, I’ll keep you informed”.I hope DG has got hold of someone who’s registered in both and can keep both forums updated,
or at least someone who has the time without other commitments that day. It would very much
suit me if he has, as I’m going to be away that day, but at a push I could keep the thing going
with updates if we were completely stuck, although I’d have to use my phone which wouldn’t be
ideal. The competition created a great buzz last year, it’s a terrific format thought up by
Diamond Geezer and Nathan, we won’t let it slide because of a minor hiccup this year.October 11, 2017 at 15:31 #1321082I am available that day G but like you say neither you or I have access to their forum to be able to post updates. the scoring is easy enough and shouldn’t be a problem but unless someone from the other side can do the same then it is a pickle!!
Like you say hold that thought until DG has tried for a solution but it would be a real shame if we can’t sort something out!October 11, 2017 at 17:57 #1321105You may have missed the post By DG this morning in the Horse Racing Forum
Raymo. Very kindly NewApproach from Talking Horses is going to register with
us and will do the scoring. I’m very grateful he (or she) has stepped into the
breach, as I’m sure everyone from our side is. It saves me from doing my pathetic
attempt at two thumb typing on my phone……..how the hell do they do they do
that at the speed they do ?? Bloody technology, I still remember holding
something akin to a half brick to my ear….and thought I was cool Anyway, all’s
well that ends well and it’s game on for Champions DayOctober 12, 2017 at 20:41 #1321236LOL I remember carrying the battery like a briefcase G
October 18, 2017 at 17:34 #1322146I was wondering how things were getting on, I know Diamond Geezer had posted before
that the pairings would need to be decided by Wednesday. I had a look over on their
forum and I see that the pairings were put up on Monday. I’ll copy them here, and
unless there is any change I imagine this is the line up. I’m sure that DG or Nathan
will confirm shortly if these are the scores on the doorsDraw for Saturday

This is a more up to date version. Perhaps everyone could post here in Racing Competitions for future posts to avoid confusion.

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 19, 2017 at 00:31 #1322215Thanks for that Jac, and yes I obviously missed the update in the Horse Racing Forum.
I had assumed (never assume, it makes an ASS of U and ME, as was drummed into me in my
old training……for all the good it obviously did) that updates and the competition
itself would be posted in the Racing Competition Forum. I’m in agreement Jac that it
makes sense to keep it here from now onOctober 19, 2017 at 09:17 #1322229I think it was good to post up in both sections as not everyone looks in the competition part of the forum apart from the regulars and nice to get a few new names taking part.
Good luck for Saturday guys, I’ll post my picks up as a reserve in-case we get a no show.Blackbeard to conquer the World
