Seven of the first eight home in the Bronze Cup had single figure draws. My two are drawn 4 and 8, so I hope it’s an omen.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 16, 2016 at 19:45 #1263775I have just been having a look buckers and Aeolus was jumping out at me even before I saw your post. He’s been highly tried this season in Group races. Well done on getting the 25s. Best price 18s now and as short as 12s in some places. Haven’t seen the racing today. Has there been any Draw bias? It looks kike the winners have come from low numbers in the sprints.
September 16, 2016 at 19:56 #1263780Good luck with your picks Steve. I can just hear the husband to his wife “I’ve just bought a racehorse dear, name it what you like”
The 5lb hike comes straight back off with McNamara in the plate. May have to do a bit each way on him also.September 16, 2016 at 22:16 #1263798Good luck with your picks Steve. I can just hear the husband to his wife “I’ve just bought a racehorse dear, name it what you like”

This is not my best race historically, although I have had good winners in it. They are too few and far between though.
All the best to everyone having a shot at this.

September 16, 2016 at 23:23 #1263809My general advice would be to look for 6/7 furlong profile horses rather than 5/6 furlong. You don’t want to be dying inside the final furlong.
The pin has come down on Absolutely So and Nameitwhatyoulike.
It will obviously be a big ask for Nameitwhatyoulike, and he might end up setting the race up for the closers, but on the plus side he is in good form and has shown that a big field doesn’t hold any terrors. That said he is almost certainly going to need another step up. I slightly prefer Absolutely So who goes into the race a relativerly fresh horse. A little bit of cut should be fine and his claiming jock is in reasonable form. He is 11lbs better in with Brando for just over 2 lengths.
September 17, 2016 at 00:19 #1263824Why do people bet on races like this? You might as well play the lottery.

Bit harsh there judge. Admittedly it’s a tall order to pick the winner in what is always a mega
competitive race, but even if you were a pin sticker I think a 1 in 28 chance is a bit more
realistic than the lottery. It is the kind of race I love to spend time mulling over, but I’m maybe
a bit weird that way. I’ve not done too badly in the race, a few decent places, and I put up Highland
Colori on here 3 years back, and he came in at a handsome price. I do however understand your sentiment,
it’s not for the faint hearted. However, I find myself more aligned to the Gimli school of reasoning
“Certainty of death, small chance of success, what are we waiting for”
September 17, 2016 at 08:57 #1263846I do both Judge but it’s a lot more fun trying to pick the winner and also watching the outcome. It’s not as if people will be having big stakes on this. Never had the winner myself. Borderlescott was my closest when he was mugged by Fonthill Road on the other side of the course 10 years ago. Gutted as I thought he’d won.

I can understand where you are coming from but as a punter you have to face reality and if you don’t bet in handicaps on a Saturday you are faced with an increasingly limited choice. Even Newmarket is dividing handicaps. Plenty of the condition races are not that easy to solve and you might easily be pushed towards putting more money on at a shorter price. If you are concentrating on the few you need a much higher strike rate.

These races are the best to bet on!!
The fun and enjoyment of trying to sort out a big handicap is without equal!! I love these big handicaps and the puzzle of trying to work out all the intangibles is brilliant!!If GLEN MOSS wasn’t drawn seventeen I would be emptying myself on this one!! I really fancy it strong but I have backed others in the race
September 17, 2016 at 09:48 #1263858Absolutely So is pricewise Stilv…
September 17, 2016 at 10:06 #1263860Sir Robert Cheval for me
Good luck all
September 17, 2016 at 12:05 #1263889Admittedly my old friend Rivellino has never won on turf still, but he has run some mighty races in the top sprint handicaps the last few years. He’s on the same mark when 3rd in the Stewards Cup last year and at 33-1 he could be a decent ew bet if he handles the softer going.

Bookies benefits surely? You can tell that by the amount of attention the bookmaker sponsored Morning line gave to it earlier. They hardly mentioned any other races.
Can anyone honestly say they are ahead overall betting on these sort of races?
September 17, 2016 at 12:14 #1263896Also if you are betting several Raymo then surely that favours the bookies even more, as you are diluting it when you have a winner.
September 17, 2016 at 16:07 #1263929I think we need to agree to disagree Judge. I love these big handicaps and I love the puzzle of trying to work them out. I don’t have huge amounts on but it is such a thrill to get it right on the occasions that I do.
September 17, 2016 at 16:08 #1263930WELL DONE STEVE!!!!
