Nice price Gord, you’d be hoping he gets an entry now, good luck.
After planning to take it easy this season on The National, I’ve bet ten horses at the moment, and added 2 of those to the market after promising myself I wouldn’t
Not happy with my bets on Tour Des Champs, and Panther Claw, as they’ve both been disappointing, and would take a miracle to get in, based on recent seasons.
Still happy with Double Seven, and he remains my main hope, very pleased that they’ve given him a rest after his 5 timer.
January 6, 2014 at 02:45 #464045If Long Run does line up then something like Knockara Beau could get in under 11 stone. Back to form this year and has been staying on really well over 3m2f and 3m4f.
January 10, 2014 at 14:08 #464415Diamond Harry was running a decent race when coming down 2 out in the Yorkshire National yesterday. 20lbs lower in the handicap than when he won the Hennessy. Seems to stay well these days. Possible National tilt? If so, i’d give him a real shout.
Right now i have…
Monbeg Dude
Tidal Bay
Carruthers
Diamond Harry
Balthazar KingJanuary 10, 2014 at 14:31 #464416Regarding Tidal Bay’s chances, has any horse ever won an Arkle and a Grand National?
January 10, 2014 at 14:59 #464417Denman, don;t know if it’s been done in the past, but in my time, 5 have tried it.
Gala’s Image fared best finishing 7th in 89.
Alverton, Tidal Bay, Forpadydeplasterer, and Contraband have all failed to finish, though Alverton was really travelling when he took his ill-fated fall at Bechers.

Not to my knowledge. Though Don’t Push It was running a huge race in the 2007 Arkle before coming down…
January 14, 2014 at 13:32 #464892Should have mentioned earlier, but kind of assumed it was generally known that Betvic have been NRFB for months on the National

I’m going to bore them with my Monbeg Dude bets. Tipped it for last years Welsh National and thought they might try Aintree last year but they underwent a misguided bypass in the Gold Cup.
This year – it’s all about Aintree. Highly unlikely to even run at Cheltenham
Fitness permitting, i think it starts at no bigger than 10-1 given it catchy name for the OAY punters, with Peter Scudamore also likely to give it a massive mention in the Daily Mail.
If Long Run starts as expected, the Dude should be no higher than 10-7
January 14, 2014 at 17:06 #464915Funny you should say that; I’d just been thinking to myself that this is the first year I can recall when I had no idea of which horses I was going to back, except for Monbeg Dude [and I would have backed Cappa Bleu]. Although I’ve still got a worry that they’ll run him in the Gold Cup.
January 14, 2014 at 19:04 #464925On the other hand
Tullamore Dew
almost made me faint. I backed this horse all last season and although he was certainly consistent, i decided to leave him alone this time… turning for home i thought he was gonna stand on his hind legs and flip me off! Not sure he’ll quite be good enough to win a National at 12, but if they run him in the Becher Chase, i’d be very excited!
Reviewing this a few months later, i can’t help but be tempted with an E/W punt should he get an entry. He may be 12, but he seems a rejuvenated character this season. Could just get in with a minimal weight?
January 14, 2014 at 19:22 #464928Just checking the result of that race; Dr Newland has got an amazing strike rate this season; doesn’t seem to train many but places his horses really well. Did Tullamore make one of his awful blunders today?

His jumping held up! Seems a different horse this season. Hoping for an entry! If so, he’ll notch my list to 6

Last years placed horses, particularly
Cappa Bleu
, and
Teaforthree
would be as safe a long term investment as you could hope for at this stage
The perils of ante-post betting.
Cappa Bleu out for the season, shame.
God damn Id been wanting to bet on Cappa Bleu since the last National! He was literally the only bet I wanted to place on this years race. Really think this years winner will come from near the top of the market and thouht CB was the perfect horse to do just that.
January 15, 2014 at 18:05 #464991Do we have any ideas when the entries are released?
January 15, 2014 at 19:50 #465001Gone in again on Shakalakaboomboom at 50s – good report from Mr Henderson
January 15, 2014 at 22:30 #465013Add me to the Dude’s list of fans. Although My Will made a decent fist of going from the Gold Cup to Grand National, he was especially hardy. Going straight to the race is probably best.
I love Beshabar too. He was my big hope for the race last year, before injury intervened again. I see that Tim Vaughan wants to go for the Foxhunters en route to this race. The problem must be that Beshabar has to place in
TWO
hunter chases in the two months before Cheltenham, then run in the Foxhunters,
THEN
turn up for Aintree in one piece.
I think this schedule is very ambitious for a horse with legs of glass who hasn’t been seen since 2011.
January 16, 2014 at 00:23 #465023I’ve heard that Beshabar has been retired [don’t quote me on it, though].
