Ben, we both posted that last reply at the same time and I agree that Ginger has done a good job.
Your earlier post mentions Across The Bay and Tidal Bay, they are the two that my money is on, you can find this several pages back. I did have Tidal bay and Seabass originally, but once Seabass got crocked I added Across The Bay. I got him at 50/1 and I’m pretty surprised that you can still get him at that price. I’ve watched the race again lately and he was traveling really well, jumping well (a couple of minor errors aside) and lost his chance when he clouted the 2nd last, although he was tiring. If they can give him a bit of a breather this time, I think he might just get that bit further.
It’s just as Ginger has highlighted, it’s all about opinions.
April 2, 2014 at 14:15 #473989Looking at the horses for the millionth time and Across the Bay has [thus far] come out on top of my scoring. Except I have a little note at the side saying ‘needs to dominate; small fields only’. The other one [thus far] is Alvarado [ ] who I dismissed as I was convinced he wouldn’t run. He will either run the race of his life or spit the dummy out; if it’s the former [after my disaster with not having the Fergal O’Brien accumulator on what became ‘Fergal O’Brien day’ last autumn] seeing him win would tip me over the edge and I’ll end up as bonkers as him. For someone that gets as I do it’s good to read Gingers analysis.
April 2, 2014 at 15:11 #474003Ginger’s preview is always good for a read and he shortlisted last year’s winner at a big price.
Any
preview can only be judged fully after the race is run and you can check out Peter Scu’s preview in the Daily Mail on Saturday to see that he’ll have a five star selection, a handful of four star picks and a squillion three star picks. No doubt he’ll claim he "sort of fancied" whatever turns out to be the winner on Saturday.
Cheers Ginger, but I can’t have Tea For Three at the odds.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 2, 2014 at 16:30 #474012It is good that Ginger spares the time but surely the degree of merit can only be properly judged around 4.25 on Saturday? Chances are if the you write about enough horses, you will get some right, some wrong.
"Enough horses", I’ve wrote about all the horses Stilvi.
All I’ve done so far in that post is the analysis, pros and cons of
all
runners. As last year – whether any horse is an actual selection will depend on what chance I’ll give each horse and what price I can get. Will add a 100% book once final decs come through and likely ground conditions are known. Highlighting those at good enough prices to be selections. Though you’ll probably be able to guess one or two already.
Some punters might look through the same analysis and come to different value selections. Although I’ve given my opinion I’ve deliberately left the conclusion to another day so people can use it to form their own personal selections.
Had I not done an in depth analysis last year am sure would not have backed Aurora’s Encore and probably not Neptune Collonges in 2012 either.

Hi vf,
To answer your question:
My first Grand National bet was Teaforthree @ 25/1 on 13th April last year. I think he’s still value and will start around 7/1. Although if anyone hasn’t backed him yet I’d wait, because some bookmakers will want the publicity of at least 10/1 the field on the day.Got a place only saver bet on Teaforthree @ 3/1.
Also got 25/1 Monbeg Dude, didn’t particularly think he was a good price, just going to arb out with the public/good story, Princess Zara money shortening him up.
Had an NRFB bet on my thread on Godsmejudge, I personally had a normal ante-post bet but laid it back later at a very small loss.
Cape Tribulation another small loss ante-post.
And Balthazar King @ 33/1
Will probably have a few more bets before too long, but Saturday’s ground could be anything from soft through to good. So want to know more.
Value Is EverythingApril 2, 2014 at 21:35 #474075Tidal Bay, Monbeg Dude and Long Run are my primary hopes. Reverse tricast perhaps?
Balthazar King, Battle Group, Quito De La Roque and Golan Way fill out the outsider selections
April 3, 2014 at 10:52 #474135For me its Burton Port. But going to have to put a cheeky fiver each way on Swing Bill love watching him over the fences.
Good luck all
Martin
April 3, 2014 at 11:04 #474139Good write up GT.
I’m left with Double Seven, Last Time D’Albain, and Quito De La Roque, with Goonyella potentially going for me.
If starting today, I would be very interested in Burton Port, and Lion Na Bearnai, if having a day of the race bet, then likely to be those 2.
April 3, 2014 at 12:24 #474148swing bill last to make cut, lost glory withdrawn

April 3, 2014 at 16:33 #474189Whatever you think of Ginger’s conclusions, his big race write-ups are gold dust for anyone looking for a reasonably detailed overview – not too short, not too long and well-written. With Ginger’s permission, I’ll be republishing on my blog for the 4th year in succession.
April 3, 2014 at 16:37 #474191I’d fallen in love with Big Shu and then Ch4 have to do a feature on him and I’m now besotted. Which means I’ll be a complete wreck on Saturday. Just going to top up the multitude of bets I’ve already had with Alvarado who I didn’t back because I was convinced he wouldn’t run. Too many coincidences with this horse one of them being chatting to the lad that rides him every day and then realising he’s an ex Howard Johnson horses
. Then seeing SWC riding Warne kept imagining it being LR on Saturday. Top it off by STD on TNO. And Dessie Hughes’s luck finally turning. Above all I want a real feel good result on Saturday.
April 3, 2014 at 16:39 #474192Oh and Martin; I love Bill as well. The sort of horse that would be a dream to own; on top of that being what John Morris calls ‘a garden horse’ as well.
