Alan said: “We can talk more about the National next week, but we plan to run both Walkon and Godsmejudge, and they are fresh and well.

Shame about Katenko, he was on my shortlist but I suppose after a largely disappointing campaign this may be one bridge too far.

Colbert Station still my number one, with perhaps Prince De Beauchene as a backup – I’m not overly enamoured with those at the head of the market, don’t think T43 is good enough to win and odds are too prohibitive to back each way, and the two class horses LR and TB have too much weight. The Irish have a small but select posse of entries so think I will side with them after such a good Cheltenham, and CS and PDB offer decent value at 20s.

I thought Home Farm was my best but unfortunately Arthur Moore withdrew him having expressed disappointment with his last run over an inadequate trip. Despite his age he might not get as good a chance again.

Left with Long Run, Monbeg Dude, Double Seven and Goonyella.

The best of those would appear to be Long Run and Goonyella although the latter needs one to drop out.

Monbeg Dude was backed before he appeared to return to style at Doncaster and even if he could get his jumping together it would be a huge ask to run through the field. It seems unlikely that Double Seven will get the genuine good ground he needs.

Goonyella will need two to pull out as Swing Bill has a higher current rating

All of my ante posts [of which there are many  ] are running except Any Currency and that was my fault for not noticing his weight.

Don’t think so. If that was the case Swing Bill would be listed as 41 not 42.

Apparantly, it is to be decided by a ballot. Shame there isn’t a better way as you have a potential winner against a 13yo who at best is just going to jump round.

What’s with the big push on Monbeg Dude, in from 16/1 (20/1 in a couple of places yesterday) to generally 12/1 and even 10/1 in a few places.

Has he been tipped up by Pricewise or someone else, or is it just a ****load of money from the stable or a big punter, although it would have to be someone of the JP ilk to make that amount of change.

    Anyone heard?

The National has not been good to me over the last few years, even to the extent of backing Mon Mone at 150s on betfair but failed to "double click" the place bet and the damn bet was not placed!!!!

Anyway my full portfolio for this years attempt is as follows (Keep away from these as you will be fine)

    Burton Port 40/1
    long Run 33/1
    Quito De La Roque 66/1
    Wayward Price 66/1
    TeaforThree 25/1

Getting the right price tends to be the easy bit but getting them to cross the line and collect is the part I am struggling with!!!!

The Racing Post have got it wrong re the ballot, the ones outside the top 40 are now clearly in ratings order .
