It is very rare on here to see a unanimous verdict on a race. All with varying opinions and different viewpoints. This alone means the horse should be odds on!!!

6/4 is still a large price for the ratings and the performance.

If i can justify lumping on long run at twos i simply have to on this fellar as well.

As with the other 2 shorties for the Championship races (Hurricane Fly & Sizing Europe) Long Run has already got the t-shirt, as in relishing the Cheltenham course and distance…..for me there is no questions to be answered by any of those three, they have all been there and done it already….

The more you watch that race yesterday the more impressed you are with how easily he demolished decent older horses….that was one nagging doubt of mine and he’s answered that question and ticked that box emphatically….

It’s just whether he will be too quick and bold for his own good at Cheltenham on the undulating course and make a bad mistake or even fall…..he does look very, very clever at his fences though and watching side on the water jump yesterday he was breathtaking….There is still that nagging doubt for me though and he will have to switch off and settle better (as Barry said after yesterday)…then there’s the hill!

I’ve seen very good horses found out by the hill before and they will be again….that’s a few of the reasons he’s still a 6/4 shot and not a 4/6 for me…..If he had any kind of decent winning form already in the book at Cheltenham then he’d be around a 1/2 shot I’m sure….

The race of the festival for me though and looking forward to it more than any other!!

Indeed, we could be looking at a demolition job in the Arkle.

The debates about whether he’ll get up the hill or not, well if he does we could see a real thrashing of the oppo.

Sprinter Sacre’s performance earned a RPR of 171. Completely unheard of for a novice. 6lbs better than Azertyuiop or Sizing Europe, 4lbs better than Best Mate, 2lbs better than Denman. His topspeed rating is also higher than any horse to have finished in the top 3 in the Arkle in the past 10 runnings. 3 higher than Somersby (Henry VI Chase), 7 higher than Ashley Brook and 10 higher than Contraband, Fair Along or ForPadyDePlasterer.

I said it was over 170 – French Opera is a very good yardstick.

Please let this one stay safe

Its the Arkle , novice chasers going full pelt, huge crowd, lots of noise, an undulating track … no such thing as a certainty. SS was hugely impressive but …….

Hurdy, I half don my cap to you, spot on and the high praise you consistently gave him might not be as high as you or I thought. I’ll don the other half in 24 days.

HGM, I agree, we have a potential monster on our hands here, and well in for spotting it. I also credit you.

I don’t know what I credit you more for though, spotting him, or not all out bragging about it

Just been reading what Spinter Sacre’s owner was saying about being happy to go with the Arkle instead of the Quenn Mother and then went on to read the following….copied from the Sporting Life website….

"Mould also revealed Sprinter Sacre had a wind operation after fading into third place behind Al Ferof in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at last year’s Festival.

"The horse had a wind problem at Cheltenham last year that’s why he didn’t get up the hill and he’s much bigger and stronger now," he added.

"He had a bit of a wind problem which has been rectified."

First time I’ve heard of that…..apologies if it has and I’ve missed it, but I thought this would have been mentioned sooner….All I kept reading about the Supreme run last year is that he was a big baby….

Still not throwing the towel in with Al Ferof, but confidence slowly draining away…!

Nobody has made much of a deal of it in the press but the wind op has been known since the start of the season. Possibly due to the fact at the time everyone was talking about Peddlers & Al Ferof. Here is a link-

Hearing Hurdy and others continuously saying that Sprinter Sacre could be the best thing since Arkle made me think; wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was a top-class racehorse called ‘Sliced Bread’?

But it would get turned over by "Stripey Toothpaste"

Didn’t Weatherbys reject an application for that name recently ?

Being a contrary get I hate consensus but it is very hard to look beyond SS’s run in Newbury. The only things the bookmakers can cling to are the horse hits the ground quite hard, doesn’t seem to settle and has never won off the bridle. The first point doesn’t matter as horses will always go on fast ground once, settling will not be an issue because they will go like scalded cats however, the horse will have to find something off the bridle to win this Arkle. He is very short for any novice chase at the festival let alone one of the best Arkles we have seen for years. Sure he is a worthy favourite but I think he will get beat.

It’s very easy to say a favourite will get beat. Most times you’re right.

    Anyone who thinks this

    Sprinter Sacre

is the second coming must be tempted with the 5/1 on offer about him winning the Arkle by 10 lengths or more! The obvious attraction to those odds is he’s a free pulling Front runner so he’ll go hell for leather from the off,its not as though he sits in behind off the pace and will come late! 5/1 to a hundred quid max was offered to me! Being dedicated to the

    Al Ferof

camp I declined! Being of the opinion that ‘the Sprinter’ will do exactly that I asked what price he doesn’t complete the course,7/4 was offered! Tempting!
    Skybet were the bookmakers!

Barry doesn’t often win by 10 lengths even when he could, he isn’t the type of jockey who asks horses to do more than they have to.

I wouldn’t have a bet with Skybet if you paid me to be honest. Worst bookies on the planet IMO

You’re mistaken about Sprinter Sacre being a front runner. Barry is holding him up all the time it’s just that he canters faster than the rest can run

His exceptionally high cruising speed and brilliant jumping might take him there but Barry will still hold him up even if he has to from the front..There will be no coming from behind IMO anything that is behind him at the last will be there at the winning post.

You’ll wait along time for this fella to stop.

You seem to be under the impression that Al Feorf has this blistering turn of foot that will carry him past Sprinter Sacre and up the Cheltenham Hill.

I think he’s as flat footed as they come and was flattered no end in the Supreme. In his last two races he has look decidedly slow to be honest

Place lay of the meeting for me if SS CC and PC turn up.

He seemed quite keen on making Big Zeb work harder than necessary in the 2010 Queen Mother.

Yes, as I can’t recall ever seeing that before. Oh wait…………

I think he’s as flat footed as they come and was flattered no end in the Supreme. In his last two races he has look decidedly slow to be honest.

He simply idled in front at Sandown and at Ascot wasn’t trained to the moment. Hurdy, you know as well as anyone that the true Al Ferof will show up at Cheltenham, and not before. That’s just how Paul Nicholls works with these types of horses.

I can’t deny Sprinter Sacre’s recent endeavours have made me slightly on edge, but really, do not underestimate the power of the Nicholls yard in March.
