Need to start by saying I had no money on the horse concerned.
Black Jack Blues – never fallen in his admittedly short career, goes off at 1/8 & hits the deck.
And that’s putting to one side that in a race with a heavy favourite, a non-runner appears to make the e/w two places instead of three.
It almost makes me pine for All Weather season!
April 18, 2010 at 16:44 #291017Just out of interest, how much money does it take to move from 1/7 to 1/8 please? Can you imagine the pain if say you were in the bookies and had £160 on it thinking you were going to make an easy £20? Just doesn’t bear thinking about.

I have seen a fair few heavy odds on Mark Johnston horses beaten on the all weather over the years. Not limited to NH racing ya know…
April 19, 2010 at 11:32 #291147Is it possible that McCoy could go down on two long odds shots on consecutive days? Bangkok Pete around 1/6 at Plumpton. Likes a bit of cut in the ground, so don’t be surprised.

Nah, he nailed it. To give a bit of benefit of the doubt, I’m not a racing expert, could anyone provide an explaination of what might have happened on Sunday?

I know. But to listen to some on here, you’d think that AW is the only place where slightly dodgy goings on occur.

First two races at Wolverhampton tells you all you need to know about all weather "racing"
The favourite in the first backed all day, never sighted and never a chance of winning
Solid Fav in the second an absolute dog, basically tailed in last…
Its a shame they are allowed to use the word "racing" in their description of the all weather.
Its not horse racing, its pure muck.
As a spectacle it can be somewhat laughable watching gambles go astray.
Anyway unfortunately its here to stay, as long as there are compulsive gamblers there will be all weather racing..
I know some people on here actually like it, dont know why, but horses for courses I guess.
April 23, 2010 at 13:32 #291929Have you never seen a favourite in a NH race or Turf Flat race get beaten out of sight?
April 23, 2010 at 13:36 #291931Joncol, have you ever considered curing cancer or the conflict in the Middle East, as your so wise, or are you content preaching to others on what they should or shouldn’t bet on?

Pompette, with respect I think my previous statement accepts that some people like it, therefore Dont know how you can say Im telling people what they should bet on
"I know some people on here actually like it, dont know why, but horses for courses I guess."
Horses for courses would suggest everyone to their own..
Im just saying I hate the all weather.
The initial poster on this topic was saying how a National Hunt race produced an odds on faller, and he was saying bring on the all weather. I was simply trying to show that the all weather is no better for favs getting beat in remarkable fashion…
April 23, 2010 at 14:23 #291941Joncol, no need to explain yourself mate, the usual suspects will soon be along to support your view.
However, I thing from your comment ‘
as long as there are compulsive gamblers there will be all weather racing
’ we can all understand where your coming from.
Anyhow, ignore my previous post, to be honest I couldn’t give a **** what you think and don’t really know why I bothered reply to it.

But yet you did…..
Surely all weather racing is designed for gambling purposes only rather than viewing plessure as a whole?
Anyway you have already said you dont care for my opinion in the gambling side of things who watch all weather racing. so obviously you wont be responding…
April 23, 2010 at 15:12 #291951Joncol, You seem surprised by the favourite being beaten in the first at Wolverhampton. The fact that this was an apprentice race surely only the truly desperate would consider this an attractive betting proposition. I can even think of a few compulsive gamblers who would rather bet on the favourite at Steepledowns than an all weather apprentice race.
XXX years ago I experienced my first odds-on shot losing, Rondetto at something like 8/100. I didn’t back it but I tell you what, my friend was bereft because it was the banker in his sixpence each way yankee bet.
In the intervening years since I’ve probably only ever backed one odds-on and even that got beat. My philosophy now is…for every pound of my own money I’m prepared to gamble I intend to get at the very least two pounds in return. If you worked for one hour but only received pay equivalent to 30 minutes would you be happy? Certainly not. So why bother backing odds on shots and be working for the bookie for nothing?April 23, 2010 at 15:17 #291953

Ken,
I am not surpised at all.
As mentioned in my first post on this topic, My point is you very often see big gambles going astray on the all waether…. Very often indeed, was that another one just there?

Mate by the way i dont back horses..
I like you want a good return for my money and too many variables to consider in horse racing these days.
Its no longer simply about the best horse in the race.
Much easier sports to make money on

In the race I backed Major Promise for a win at 9 on Betfair. Cracking value based on his decent effort at the track last December and ran to form again today. The all weather regularly throws up decent priced back class horses/winners like this.
April 23, 2010 at 16:24 #291963Exactly Cav.
As for the nonsense about a rock-solid favourite in the maiden trailing in last, there were a host of potentially interesting fillies in opposition to the favourite (7/2 on the tissue) – why did she have a divine right to win? - AuthorPosts
