Am I reading the RP right, was Hinton Thunderbolt really beaten by 22 lengths?

Ever since the Grand National, I’ve always given Venetia Williams’ horses a longer look than they’d otherwise deserve but it’s also occured to me lately that Liam Treadwell was on board that day; I’m starting to form the opinion that Aidan Coleman really isn’t very good at all.

Anyway, I know this isn’t the ‘Systems’ board but today was the third time I’ve gone for the ‘outsiders’ in ultra small fields. Sentry Duty did for Mr Thriller early in the month & Song Sung Blue did the business today.

Of course, I couldn’t post this in systems anyway as I’ve now told people about it, which means it will no longer work.

PS In between those two winners Tazbar made me look like an idiot at the weekend. Ho hum!

Always be wary of a horse that has run well after a long lay-off and then comes out again not long after. The horse ran a blinder first time up having been off the track for 21 months.

The horse finishing last today was no surprise at all to me, wish I had a pound for every time something like that seems to happen..

I reckon the horse will be a much better betting proposition next time out!

Looking at early entries I think it depends.

If he runs at Chepstow on Friday, he’ll get beaten by My Friend Sandy (who beat todays winner Song Sung Blue back in November) but he looks good for Towcester on Sunday.

Sorry, Anthonycutt, I have to disagree with you. Williams’ horses are running very badly at present with several being pulled up. There might be a problem in the yard other than the jockey or trainer.

I fail to see your logic here. Are you suggesting that because you’ve ‘publicised’ your secret formula for finding winners in small fields that the odds on ‘your’ outsider will now become cramped? If that happens then perhaps ‘your’ outsider will be replaced with another horse in which case we’ll then have a new outsider with better credentials for winning than your original outsider!

Why blame the horse when you’re perfectly capable…..

Seems we were both right, Anthony! Coleman rubbish; Yard not exactly firing.

    Ouch! Seriously, ouch!

Actually, it’s not that publicising my system will contract the prices, it’s much more that whenever I give anyone tips, they tend to fall very flat very quickly. And not just tips on racing, but tips on everything!

The ‘system’ worked today mind you:

    2.05 Naas

Oscar Looby (4/1) beating Alpha Ridge (4/6F) & Telenor (9/4)

I wonder what it is about racing at the moment that short priced favourites seem to be getting turned over quite often. Maybe it’s the weather.

Outsider of 3 or 4 – always worth a look, I suspect mainly because a good proportion of such races tend to be run at a false pace and therfore the form book is often overturned.

Hugh Taylor on monday showed the stats for backing the outsider of 3, and since 2002 (i think) you’d have made a loss.

Bearing in mind that I’m very much a novice in this particular field, the key for me at the moment is to back both outsiders in a three runner field as opposed to just to the out & out outsider. As with everything of course, I wouldn’t just blindly back using that system (not again anyway). And I probably won’t do it with four horse fields.

Thinking about it, this may be the most sure fire system in the history of the world (I’m not saying it is by the way, just taking things to extremes) but how often is it going to come up?
