was just wondering how everyone is getting on now the competition has started. ive had 7 run so far, 3 wins, 3 2nds and a faller. detroit city, kauto star, iktitaf, central house, asian maze, beef or salmon and taranis. im regreting not having nickname and star de mohaison but i always want to change horses as soon as i submit my entry!!!
November 21, 2006 at 17:17 #81179I’m in the Top 30 currently Grassy. (Not desperately keen about giving my identity away)

November 21, 2006 at 17:33 #81180your right grasshopper, the leaders do seem to contain horses that lack scope. i hope! must be nice being at the top of the table tho!
November 21, 2006 at 23:19 #81181
Thought I was doing well with 3 winners from 6 runners but it looks like I’m doomed already especially with Star De Mohaison missing the Hennessy! I regret missing out Detroit City but I think I have mainly slipped up by putting in the obvious selections as it seems to be the likes of your Eurotrek’s who bring in the vital points….
November 22, 2006 at 03:48 #81182Eurotrek and Exotic Dancer the two big scorers thus far. Halcon Genelardais also has had a reasonable start and as i have it in all my selections I hope it can continue to well (and race lots of times:biggrin: )
November 22, 2006 at 19:13 #81183J144th for our best list, with most of the big guns yet to come (none of this Eurotrek and Exotic Dancer carry on for us ~ it’s all about the class!!)
November 22, 2006 at 22:37 #81184I beg your pardon Rory! All about the class my foot, Eurotrek is pure class!
January 8, 2007 at 14:10 #669i have central house, beef or salmon, asian maze and iktitaf in my list and i dont know which to get rid of! any suggestions gratefully recieved!
January 8, 2007 at 14:37 #35548
Get rid of BoS I would say as I can’t see him turning the form around with The Listener in the Irish Hennessy and we all know what he’s like at Cheltenham….
How many subs are allowed again? £5 a pop is a bit much isn’t it! I’ve got to get rid of Star De Mohaison but I was thinking of giving Taranis the chop as well with his current handicap mark.
January 8, 2007 at 16:01 #35549you can sub 2. i think im going to get rid of beef. i have taranis as well but i think i will keep him because i hope he can win something on better ground. possibly the racing post chase at kempton in feb, the easy 3 miles should suit him and its worth 50 points!
do you think central house has a hope of winning anything?
January 8, 2007 at 16:43 #35550
Maybe Taranis will run over hurdles as well so I might stick with him. I need to get a National type in though and I left out Detroit City so I was looking at him although Brave Inca & Asian Maze are my CH hopes!
If we knew that Well Chief had retained all of his ability, he would surely be a cert for the QM but if it were such a slight injury as reported, why hasn’t he run yet?
January 8, 2007 at 16:53 #35551im getting rid of central house myself, that was the original plan, will bring in VPU or Newmill or Foreman,Taranis looks a good selection for racing post chase, i read somewhere that PN advised to leave him in TTF lists,i cant squeeze him in myself as only 2 subs allowed and i dont have BJK in , I’m hoping Incompliance can get the better of The listener in the Irish race,I have to get rid of one from KS,WOA, OR State of play, probably the defending GC champion!
January 8, 2007 at 16:56 #35552i would say detroit city has more chance than asian maze in the champion. i personally dont bother with a national type because its a lottery as to whether the horse gets round etc. including well chief is a risk, but one that could pay off. however he usually needs the run first time out, so if he goes staight for the queen mother that would be a negative.
January 8, 2007 at 17:24 #35553this might be a stupid question, but where does one find official handicap marks/ratings etc,Ive never cosidered it much in terms of my own handicapping/ assessments, but i’m forever reading about horses running or potentially winning off a certain mark and increasingly wondering where a list might be located?.

I don’t do the 10 to follow myself, but a couple of observations on the above which may, or may not, be useful.
Taranis is still improving, and ran seriously well lto on the wrong ground, enough for his trainer to comment:
There is a nice race in him when he gets going conditions more to his liking.
He is also unlikely to meet another Exotic Dancer in his chosen race at the festival.
Also Well Chief invariably runs well fresh, so much so that on his last 2 seasonal debuts he has comfortably beaten his previous best performance.

Incredibly I don’t think this information is available publically (ie – the current OR of any horse in training) unless they are declared for a race within the next 5 days but I am open to correction there.

There is a big difference in running when fresh and coming back after almost 2 years out due to injury, despite what connections say about the seriousness of the injury.
