February 14, 2008 at 17:35 #143195Nice 3rd Z- can you get on with Sportingbet? I find them a waste of time for any more than a tenner m’self.
February 15, 2008 at 11:36 #143439Sportingbets, Partybets, Betfred, Betdirect etc are all bookies that I do not personally bother with. I used to be a member of Isiris and I found it virtually impossible to get a bet on with these companies (never tried partybets to be fair).
Generally speaking the win price on betfair will be higher than with any bookies and if I can get the correct price in the place market on betfair then I will play the bet on betfair. So for example with that horse at 12/1 yesterday I took 16.0 on the win and got 3.3 on the place so was happy with that. On some e/w bets on betfair the win market is fine but the place market can offer no value. Mainly when its a classic e/w race with a short fav and 2 horses around 5/1 and then a big gap to the rest. On these bets I will try and get on with the bookmaker.
For the purpose of this thread I am simply quoting my e/w fancy and whichever bookmaker on oddschecker that is showing the best price. The horse yesterday that I quoted at 12/1 did actually open at 12/1 on course and it was also very lucky to get 3rd place.
February 15, 2008 at 13:15 #1434708.) 2:15 Lingfield – MIGHT BE MAGIC at 8/1 (Blue Square)
RESULT = 2nd (8/1 sp)
Running Profit/Loss = 0.00 points
9) 2:15 Lingfield – ROWAN RIO at 8/1 (Sportingbet)
RESULT = 1st (11/1 sp)
Running Profit/Loss = + 9.6 points
February 15, 2008 at 13:27 #143478Zoso – just to flag up that the 2:15 is down to 2 places now. Not sure if you are aware and just trying to be helpful…
February 15, 2008 at 13:32 #143481Thanks Non Vintage. The outsider Honest Yankee was pulled out at about 10:30am this morning. I was aware of it but its nice of you to point it out to me. The 100/1 shot was never going to be involved and I am looking for the 1-2 in this race (failing that just the winner will do fine, which I believe I have).
February 15, 2008 at 13:58 #143496The 100/1 outsider was involved, it was giving the race the vital ew shape. Without it, whether you pick the winner or not from your 2 selections, whether you have any value on the place part is a moot point. Better off just splitting stakes on the win part of your two selections imo.
February 15, 2008 at 14:07 #143502My bet was formed knowing it was a 7 horse (2 place market), the 8th horse and outsider was taken out 3 hours before I posted the bet. This is my bet and I like it.
If I get just one of the e/w bets placed then I have lost 1 point from a 4 point risk. If I went 2 point win on each selection and one got placed then I lose 4 points (but would obviously win more with a winner). There are many combinations of bets you could take and it is easy to say that the winning combination was the right one after the race. But this is my combination before the race.
February 15, 2008 at 14:18 #143511Good effort Z, well done!
