Probably one of the worst races I’ve watched yet (though, to be fair, I am not a seasoned horseracing fanatic as of yet)

It was so odd how a jockey managed to fall off 2 seconds into the race, and even more odd how another followed suite literally seconds after.

Then poor Kfourkhaleesi and Presentingnewyork looked to go wrong, and Winning Kate was fatally injured.

To top it all off, the winning jockey falls and sustains a leg injury in the 3.25 later on in the meeting

Its so odd how I can watch the vast myriad of meetings racing has to offer nowadays and nothing is amiss for ages. Then, like buses, the oddness all comes along at once.

Either way I only bring this up with the up-and-coming Panorama in mind. Also, considering how people look into the sport view it in general.

I love racing, I do, but I think we need to address the concerning increase (albeit a small one) in horse fatalities. (see also Alistair Rawlinson and Shane Kelly’s recent falls.) These fatalities are perhaps linked to inbreeding, though I’m not sure.

It seems the jockeys are also paying the price of it too with their painful injuries.

Anyways, all of this is ramblings really. Good job this is a forum :good:

I think it’s fair to say this race was very unusual, especially with two jockeys being unseated on the flat so soon after the start.

Oddly though, it was reminiscent of the 4:35 at Killarney (again!) on 10 May. That was another large field novice hurdle with several horrible incidents that sadly led to three equine fatalities. As you say dawnrun_jade, it’s strange how nothing like this happens for ages but then other races are packed with incident. I don’t follow Irish racing closely enough to say whether Killarney is particularly risky, or has just been exceptionally unlucky. Probably the latter.

Re the equine leg injuries, you do have to wonder if breeding has played a part.
