My local non league team South Liverpool beat Longridge Town 3-2 on Saturday in the Final Preliminary Round for the FA Cup. Their first and last goals were scored by Jack Bentley, Jim’s son.
It means South Liverpool are in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup for the first time since 1990. Back in their days in the old Northern Premier League, just before they went bust and Holly Park became dilapidated.
I am so pleased for the small group of volunteers who have worked so hard to keep the club alive. Their reward is a home tie against Prestwich Heys, a team they have to play in the league only ten days later. A good chance to get to the next round, when the NLN and NLS teams all join the competition.
