I was tempted to take the 5/1 against Farage polling 80% or more of the vote in tomorrow’s farcical by-election. Despite all the publicity, I am not convinced that Count Binface and the rest of the motley crew will muster over 20% between them.
One candidate I would like to see do well is William Clouston of the SDP, which is still going (just about). Mr Clouston is an intelligent, thoughtful man and deserves a more high profile platform – but I suspect he is too decent a person for the cut and thrust of modern politics.
Incidentally, when I was in Waterstones earlier this week, I noticed that Count Binface has written a book. Binface, in reality a BBC scriptwriter named Jonathan Harvey, looks like he is turning it into a lucrative brand.
