I doubt Southport’s owners said Marine away on Boxing Day was a preferred option. If they did, they are massively out of touch with the supporters. The away end at Marine only holds about 300 people with barely adequate facilities. Southport could probably sell a thousand tickets for that day. It makes no sense to play the Boxing Day fixture in Marine’s little three sided ground when Haig Avenue (capacity around 6,000) is available.
The Grand National fixture is madness. I recall in the days before Sky when Liverpool or Everton used to kick off at midday on National day. Maybe we should ask for the same!
