Despite having next to no interest in Motorsport I enjoy an annual dip into the TT: it’s shown on ITV4 for those unaware.
A spectacular and unnerving watch with the lap record being an average speed of about 135mph apparently 
About 270 have died since it was first run in 1907 with only one deathless year.
From what I’ve seen of it there seems to be very little evidence of safety considerations: just the closed roads as they are with bare walls, trees and numerous other ‘natural’ hazards perfectly situated to inflict serious damage on human flesh.
All quite heartening really and I’m glad the Manx authorities have seemingly resisted trying to make the event less lethal; and I’m pretty sure the competitors are too.
