Horse racing may have a lot of thrilling parts about it – the wonderful animals in competition, the jockeys wearing their different colours, the sports bets that can be placed on events, the fashionable attire that attendees wear and much more. Yet, there’s also the venues themselves to consider. Some of these provide a wonderful experience in themselves, so here’s a look at a few of the world’s most beautiful racecourses.
Meydan Racecourse, Dubai
We all know that Dubai is one of the most advanced countries in the world where architecture is concerned. A country flush with cash, this is very evident in the Meydan Racecourse, which boasts its own five-star trackside hotel – the world’s very first! The location even has a variety of restaurants and a museum for visitors to enjoy, and the grandstand alone is over one mile long, providing spaces for 60,000 spectators. It’s also become home to one of the richest horse races in the world today – the Grade 1 Dubai World Cup.
Flemington Racecourse, Australia
Operating as Australia’s oldest metropolitan racecourse, Flemington is also the location where the famous Melbourne Cup takes place. First used in 1840 (when Melbourne was only five years old itself), the venue has gone through plenty of revamps over the years. The Melbourne Cup, which is known as “the race that stops a nation”, sees the racecourse erupt into a blaze of different colours, attracting fans of the sport from all over the world.
Piazza del Campo, Italy
There certainly isn’t any kind of racecourse elsewhere in the world that can match up with the spectacle that Piazza del Campo provides. This venue plays host to the Palio di Siena horse race twice per year, and it dates right the way back to medieval times. The first events held here were held on the backs of buffalo! Races at this course see spectators line the sides and the centre, with the course circling around the fans. It’s truly a marvel to see.
Forever linked with horse racing, Royal Ascot is one of the world’s biggest horse racing events to take place. Opened in 1711 by Queen Anne, it’s remains as one of the most celebrated venues for horse racing fans. A mass of sports bets are placed every year when events take place at Ascot, with masses of sportsbooks providing odds on events. One such site is Sportingbet, and there’s even a Sportingbet promo code to use for this site, allowing you to benefit even more from being a member there. Alongside horse racing, bettors can place wagers on various other sports, with various promotions often being available to benefit from.
Beauty doesn’t come much more obvious than with the Chantilly racecourse in France, which is based in front of the 16th-century Chateau de Chantilly. Built in 1832, the racecourse abuts the Great Stables, which were erected in 1719 by the owner of the estate at the time, Louis Henri de Bourbon. It was in 2016 and 2017 that Chantilly racecourse played host to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, which is Europe’s most valuable horse race event. Usually held at Longchamp, that course was undergoing a €130 million revamp, and so Chantilly provided a more-than-adequate backup.
