David Cormack’s Saturday Selections – October 17th

A big day at Ascot tomorrow with another renewal of Champions Day set to take place, unfortunately still behind closed doors. It is a bit of a marmite event but I really enjoy it and tomorrow’s card looks interesting enough with some competitive racing and, in Palace Pier, potentially the best colt in Europe on show.

He will start too short for us to take an interest and I am only having one bet tomorrow – SEARCH FOR A SONG 11/2 Coral/Ladbrokes) is taken to turn over Stradivarius, whose record in this event is one win from three attempts. He looks opposable here and Search For A Song looks a strong contender. Her two runs when she’s taken on a trip extending beyond a mile and a half have resulted in two Irish St Leger wins. She has always shaped as a real stayer although wasn’t all that far behind Magical and ir Dragonet in the ten furlong Tattersalls Gold Cup earlier this season.

This longer trip on soft ground poses a new test but I think she’ll cope with both well and with Stradivarius vulnerable here at the end of his season in the past she looks a value alternative.

I hope you enjoy the weekend,
