We get underway for 2021 by tackling one of the big staying handicap chases of the year, the Welsh Grand National (Chepstow 3.10), pushed back two weeks from its initial run date.
The horse I will be on here is CHRISTMAS IN APRIL who comes here with plenty potential, a good record on heavy ground and the impression that stamina will not be an issue. His win at Exeter last February provides plenty of encouragement for his chance here. The 10/1 looks plenty big enough and there will be no more popular winner as he runs for Colin Tizzard in whose late daughter Kim’s name the race is being run. The Hollow Ginge could run well at a bigger price and has a race like this in him at some point I suspect but Christmas In April is the one for tomorrow.
For the other bet on the day I am going with CAPELAND (8/1 generally – Wincanton 2.35). This flat track plays to all his strengths (he is 2 from 2 on the course) and he looks sure to run well. He is possibly a pound or two high in the handicap still but at the price and with conditions to suit I think he is a worthy bet to counter that possibility.
Have a great weekend,
