David Cormack’s Saturday Selections – Feb 22nd

Hi all –two poor efforts last Saturday. Ground was extremely testing and I think, in hindsight, I should have swerved the weekend from a betting perspective really.

Kempton tomorrow looks like providing a much sounder surface and I’m hopeful that can suit SOUTHFIELD STONE (11/2 Ladbrokes). He was a good hurdler last season, beating Angel’s Breath here and finishing close up behind the useful Bold Plan and Elixir De Nutz on the back of two wins on his first two starts in the discipline. He bombed out on his final start at Aintree but has been back on form when sent over fences this term.

His second to Brewin’upastorm was a good effort, that horse had previously outpointed Good Boy Bobby and the form has a fairly solid look about it. He was a good third the time after in a competitive novices’ handicap at Newbury before routing his two rivals at Musselburgh last time. That was an eye-catching effort and I think 1//2 underplays his chance here on similar ground that I think suits him well.

That’s the only bet this Saturday on a low-key Saturday as the Cheltenham build up starts to get into top gear. Have a great weekend.
