David Cormack’s Saturday Selections – 29th February

Two for tomorrow –

The 1.30 at Newbury is a ‘seniors’ handicap hurdle for horses aged 8 and over. One of those in the line up that seems to be coping with advancing years is ALL YOURS (6/1 generally) who has been regenerated by a spell on the all-weather. He’s won 4 of his last 7 over trips ranging from 11 furlongs to two miles, all at Kempton but has run creditably at Wolverhampton too.

It could be that he is particularly suited to an artificial surface but he is a former Grade 1 winning hurdler (when trained by Paul Nicholls) and is very well treated on plenty of his hurdle form. At the prices it’s worth taking a chance that his all-weather rejuvenation can be transferred to turf and hurdles as he looks like he is potentially well in.

For the second bet I think hot favourite Master Tommytucker is worth taking on with TIDAL FLOW (11/4 bet365, Betfair Sport, Paddy Power) in the 4.25 at the same meeting. Master Tommytucker has fallen three times on his four starts over fences which is a huge worry and, although he has looked like a horse of some potential (Nicholls is clearly really keen on him), he has yet to be really tested at the business end. Tidal Flow brings a comparable level of form, without perhaps hinting at the same kind of potential. He’s won one of his three chase starts, progressing each time. His second to Burbank last time looks solid form and, even if Master Tommytucker stands up, he may have it served up to him by Hobbs’ improving seven year old.

If he gets round Master Tommytucker may well prevail but the prices look a bit more skewed in his direction than I think the facts warrant and I’ll be against him tomorrow.
