David Cormack’s Saturday Selections – 10th October

The most prestigious two year old race of the year for the colts tomorrow at Newmarket and it looks a fantastic race in prospect with a strong Irish challenge but a robust defence by the home team who are headed by the promising Alkumait and Chindit, about whom Richard Hannon and his team have been unusually bullish. I’ll be sitting it out from a betting viewpoint but I can’t wait to see what unfolds.

Up at York in the 1.30 Sir Michael Stoute, whose team are in good form, runs JUST FINE (9/2 generally) for the Queen and this son of Sea The Stars can confirm the excellent impression he made when winning a one mile Novice race at Sandown in commanding fashion. He could well develop into a decent colt over longer distances next year and I think he can go into the winter with this under his belt.

In the last race on the card CARDANO (20/1 Paddy Power, BetVictor) has the cheekpieces back on after a below par effort last time. Back to 1m 2f on soft ground which he’s run well on before and with the headgear back in play he looks worth a try at a big enough price.

The final bet runs in the 4.50 at Newmarket. HIGHEST GROUND (2/1 generally) is a strong selection. He shaped well when beating Waldkonig on his seasonal debut before running a close second when stepped up in class in the Dante. Stoute is a master with this sort of horse and he can continue to progress with a win here.

Have a great weekend and enjoy a great day’s racing,

David
