Happy New Year everyone.
Just the one for tomorrow on what is a relatively low-key start to the year.
Up at Wincanton GALA BALL (4/1 Bet65 and William Hill) looks to be over-priced.
Up until a poor recent run at Newbury on his seasonal reappearance Gala Ball had been a model of consistency, placing 12 times in a row, winning 5 times, two of those wins coming at this track over hurdles. He kept fair company during that run of results and has a good record in handicap chases (22210). I am prepared to forgive him that poor run at Newbury, it was his seasonal reappearance but, more importantly, he was reported to have lost a shoe which may have had an effect.
He has the measure of tomorrow’s likely favourite Valdez (now increasing in years) on their running at Newbury last March (beat that rival a fairly comfortable length and is now 2lbs better in with him).
As De Mee could be dangerous with a 7lb allowance claimed by up and coming Bryan Carver who looks good value for his claim. But it’s been a long time since he’s managed to get his head in front (over two years) and he’s had plenty opportunities so I’m happy to take him on.
Gala Ball is the one to set us off on what I hope will be a profitable 2020.
