David Cormack’s Saturday Selection – 27th June

No triumphant return on our first set of Saturday service selections since the lockdown break last weekend. I’m very hopeful we can reverse that and get back to the form we were showing pre-lockdown in 2020.

Only one to go to war with tomorrow though. At Newmarket in the 1.50, BREATH OF AIR looks a strong contender at 3/1 (bet365, Coral, William Hill). Gelded over the winter, he returned a couple of weeks back at Newbury and put in a very pleasing effort to beat Blue Mist (same ownership) going away in taking fashion. He ran a couple of good races off this sort of handicap mark last year and it is entirely possible, likely even, that he’s improved for the gelding operation and another year behind him.

Chief market rival Arbalet is feared, having himself been gelded over the winter and, perhaps more significantly, having changed hands to join David O’Meara from Hugo Palmer. O’Meara has proven he can improve them and Arbalet has shaped well on both runs this campaign. Highly tried in his day the big question with him is that it’s taken a drop to class 5 company to see him get his head in front. That said, he is on a career-low handicap low mark and has to be respected as he’s looked to be warming up nicely on his two starts.

But Breath Of Air appeals most and, at the prices, is my only bet of the day.
