Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool – Saturday 8pm
The European football season culminates with an all English final where one of Mauricio Pochettino or Jurgen Klopp will lead their teams to a first trophy under their stewardship.
It’s a position neither team expected to be in after the first legs of their respective semi-finals, but two spectacular comebacks resulted in Liverpool reaching a second European Cup final in a row and Tottenham their first ever.
Liverpool deservedly go in as favourites after an outstanding season which saw them finish 26 points ahead of their opponents tonight.
They also came out on top in both meetings between the teams this season by a 2-1 score line and it’s ??? for that result to be repeated here.
But it was only a last-minute Hugo Lloris error that handed Liverpool victory in their last game at Anfield and Spurs can take heart from that performance.
Spurs didn’t end the season in good form, but the three-week gap from the end of the league season until now makes everything that came before tonight almost irrelevant and both sides will enter on a level footing
Pochettino will be able to call upon Harry Kane for the first time since April after his injury although whether he retakes his place ahead of hat-trick hero Lucas Moura remains to be seen.
In either case I can see Liverpool aiming for a fast start to unsettle Spurs and odds of 5/1 (Bet365) for Sadio Mane to score first could prove to be decent value.
Also of note is odds of 9/1 (Bet365) for Virgil van Dijk to score anytime. The PFA player of the year is always a danger from set pieces and could put the seal on a tremendous individual campaign.
