2020 marks a crucial milestone for sports in UAE as the Meydan Racecourse celebrates its 10th anniversary. The majestic architectural wonder at the heart of Nad Al Sheba is a true manifestation of the country’s vision and progress.
The racecourse was launched in 2010, coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the Dubai World Cup, one of the most prestigious horse racing events in the region. Since it was unveiled, Meydan has remained to be among the most influential venues in horse racing, helping to move the sport higher in the upper echelons of envied activities around the world.
Over the last decade, Meydan has established an excellent reputation, helping create world-class racers. Most of these athletes have helped punters make a profit after redeeming the Bet365 Royal Ascot offers, which attract millions of spectators every year. Meydan started its incredible journey when the Brazillian-bred stallion Gloria de Campeao won the first Dubai World Cup staged at this center of attraction.
This state-of-the-art venue boasts of a golf course, a five-star hotel, an equine museum, a tennis academy, and a Marina. A Meydan City was also created courtesy of UAE Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, his highness Sheikh Mohammed.
The racecourse became the talk of the town when it was unveiled, with horseracing loyalties gracing the facility, which also feature 72 trackside corporate suits and Michelin Star restaurants. Meydan’s 2400 m left-handed track hosts two of the world’s most prestigious turf races, the $6 million Dubai Sheema Classic and the $6 million Dubai Turf.
The venue’s dirt track hosts the $12 million Dubai World Cup, and it has been known to challenge both the horses and their riders. After the Dubai World Cup tournament, it’s now up to international stars like Santana, Janet Jackson, Elton John, and Kylie Minogue to keep the thousands of race fans entertained.
Meydan was opened the same year with the Hamdan Sports Complex, an intriguing multi-purpose sports arena that hosted the FINA World Swimming Championships in 2010. Most of the fixtures on the racecourse rake place between Thursday and Saturday.
Since it was opened, the Meydan Racecourse features a full season of horse racing events running from October to April. This year, the season is scheduled to feature twelve domestic races, each with a purse of up to AED1m. However, the races run concurrently with the renowned Dubai World Cup Carnival. Nonetheless, exceptional dining and entertainment are available during every race meeting to ensure that the guests get to the heart of the race action.
