The key problem with Cahill’s comments was that it showed that reputational damage was more worrying to him than the integrity of the sport.
For those not familiar with the Irish political scene, it is important to note that the Chairman of the Committee, Jackie Cahill has a personal interest in the horse racing industry as an owner.
Another important point is that he is a TD (MP) for the Tipperary constituency. Why is that relevant?
There are about 80 trainers, 1,000 horses in training and 1,000 employees based in Co.Tipperary. Chief amongst them is Ballydoyle, the largest establishment in Ireland. It would be understandable that a local member of parliament might try to avoid bad publicity for a vibrant industry and key source of employment in his constituency.
Most importantly in my view however, is that some of the comments he made last week, in my view showed hostility to Bolger. He certainly didn’t give me the impression that he was welcoming the input of Bolger.
Here is a section from an Irish Independent news report from June 22nd:
Agriculture Committee chairman Jackie Cahill said Mr Bolger’s claims were doing “serious reputational damage” to the industry and that it was important they are either “substantiated or put to bed”.
With public comments like that is it any wonder Bolger decided against appearing.
Not correct, he didn’t have 241 jumps winners. He had 241 between both codes.
Verdana Blue, was she the only non-trier to ever win a Grade one?
Was never at the course but from TV it looks like the fences at Warwick take a bit of jumping.
Danilo D’airy adds to the embarrassment the handicapper should be feeling.
He’s just won again by over 3 lengths not extented giving 10 pounds to an 80 rated horse back in 2nd, with both of them pulling 34 lengths clear of the rest.
I said the 52 pound rise was very lenient.
There’s a great video doing the rounds today on twitter of 4/5 minutes of clips from a recent Labour party conference. It basically sums up why they are unelectable.
They care more about pronouns and other similar b*ll*cks, than on proper issues that most people actually care about.
They really are for the few and not the many.
And Angela Rayner coming out today supporting a vigilante group who are trying to stop the deportation of ILLEGAL immigrants in Scotland, further displays that they are behaving more like a secondary school student union than a group of people hoping to govern a country.
I’m usually highlighting rises that I think are too high, but on this occasion I actually think Danilo D’airy was leniently treated, considering the front 2 pulled so far clear of the rest.
To make matters worse, the 3 previous runs under rules I refer to above were all hurdle races. Yet he was allowed to run in a handicap on chasing debut? That makes a total mockery of the system.
Danilo D’airy won a handicap today at Warick from 38 pounds out of the handicap winning by 9 lengths back to the second and a further 22 lengths back to the third.
Does anyone know what is the highest a horse was ever raised for a win?
But the main reason I post this is to ask how on earth this horse was given a handicap mark at all. 3 runs over runs, beaten 93 lengths, pulled up and beaten 97 lengths, yet was given a mark of 35. Pure and utter guesswork from the handicappers and there is no way he should have been given a mark based on that evidence.
Runs today off 73, and beats a 74 rated horse back in 3rd by 31 lengths without being fully extended.
This performance could be measured quite fairly as a 105 performance. If the handicapper sees it the same way it would mean a possible 70 pound rise in the handicap for this performance. Will it happen?
My theory – With owners not being allowed to go, there are less horses entered in races just to give them a day out.
Point taken Ginger, she possibly has a better performance than her grade 1 last week. But it’s marginal.
Beating Franco de Port by equivalent of 4 lengths she was given a rating of 153.
Another grade 1 winning mare for Mullins, Stormy Ireland, who we discussed plenty a couple of pages back in this thread.
Her best performance of her career, but only 25 days after her previous run Ginger?
Delighted for him. Did very well in that finish
Rises his strike rate even further.
A great watch. Two really good performances. If Nicholls hadn’t brought Clan over, we’d be talking about what a monster ABP is. But he didn’t jump the last two well enough to get on terms.
Have we seen our first 180+ horse in a long time?
It was too much of a coincidence that 10-12 years ago we had 4/5 horses reach 180+ around the same time but haven’t had any in last 6/7 years.
Has it ever happened before that all the runners in a Grade 1 chase were previous winners of a grade 1 chase?
