I would prefer it to stay as it is at four days. But if the Festival does go to the 5 day meeting the option of just 2 new races and having 6 races a day is the best way. We don’t want and extra 5 or 6 races. Someone wrote in the Racing Post ages ago about having a legends race at the Festival. I think that would be great idea. Think about it you need 2 new races well have a debate about whether we need a mares bumper,2m4f hurdle etc. Then the other race could be a Festival Legends race with retired jockeys perhaps a 1 mile flat race with people like Ap McCoy Ruby Walsh Charlie Swan Norman Williamson Richard Johnson etc. I prefer 4 days but if/when it goes to 5 days a legends race could be a good idea.
Hello Marlingford
The period I’d be really interested in would be the Cheltenham and Aintree meetings from 1992-1997.
Thanks again
Many Thanks PAULOSTERMEYER MARLINGFORD and TONGE
Really appreciate you getting back. That sounds great. If you could keep me informed with anything you find that would be great. Send me a personal message if that’s better for you.
Thanks againHello Great subject. I think Richard Dunwoodys Obsessed is a great read. He really does seem to come across obsessed in his pursuit to be the best. Also I think Peter Scudamores is a good book. The Barry Brogan book is also very revelling if its all true. It gives me a idea for a question for the forum. What books that haven’t be written yet about horse racing would you like to see done? For me I like the autobiographys it would be good if people like Nicky Henderson or Kieren Fallon wrote books. I think Sam Morshead has done a book that should be interesting.
The jockey camera clips that are on the channel 4 website and youtube are brilliant they really give you the thrill of what it must be like to ride in a race. But the one of Daryl Jacob at cheltenham only is a couple of minutes where as the ones of Richard Hughes at ascot show the whole race. I think it would be great if you could watch a whole jump race through one of those cameras. Lets hope they use them again at aintree over the national fences that would be great to watch. I think in the late 90’s the bbc used the jockey cams as well.
Hello Richard thanks for taking part in the Q&A.
Do the BBC still have the complete programmes of the cheltenham festival and the aintree national meetings from the early 1990s to mid 1990s. Not just the races the actual whole days broadcast?
What do you think of the changes to the national fences? Are you happy with them or do you think the race has been made far too easier for horses just to brush through them?
Any plans to write a 2nd autobiography?
Thanks
Solihull
The probable answer is no to the whole days at Cheltenham /Aintree festival as storage used to be problem and they edited out much of the main races too, maybe different now as digital but that would not help you.
I am very aware of the strength of public opinion and see why the changes, Bechers is no longer the trap it posed but if it means we carry on racing, well and good. Francome is of the opinion that the bigger the fences the safer as it slows jockey’s minds down.I am strong on really educating the riders of the importance of pulling a horse up as soon as it even starts to occur to them, there are no medals for finishing knackered just to be 14th. Any further G Nat deaths will be increasingly hard to defend, they have to realise the consequences of their actions. We used to be carefree cavaliers but times change and now with so much tv coverage they have a responsibility beyond themselves.
I started a second Autobiog four years ago, did five hilarious chapters after a night out and had planned to finish it here in Florida this month but the wife decided to come so I have to do the tourist things. Going into the Everglades on one of those fan driven punts so if I never come out, thanks for the contact.
I think its eddie cr. Thats know the name of his channel on youtube. I don’t know if he is still bluemanc45 or now eddie cr.
Is bluemanc45 or he might have changed his name to eddie c thats what his youtube channel now comes under. Is he still on the racing forum? I was just wondering because I have sent him a couple of PM but I have had no answer from him yet.
Hello bluemanc45
I sent you a private message a few days ago just wondering if you got it.
Thanks for your help people.
Hello
Is bluemanc43 on the racing forum? He has loads of videos on youtube. I know espmadrid is on here but I was wondering whether bluemanc43 is on here aswell? Or does anyone know how I could contact them.
Thanks
Cheers guys. Thanks for your help.
Thanks Robert99
Do you know how many point to point trainers there are aswell in ireland? and are they also spread across the different countys like the licensed trainers?
Thanks.I have meet and had plenty of great chats with john suthern. He was a NH jockey in the 70s and 80s and I think he is the only english jockey to win the belgium grand national. He won it on on a horse called kildagin back in the 70s. I have also met plenty of jockeys at a grand national preview people like james and richard evans, ken white, john buckingham and ian watkinson. I have also met richard phillips he was brilliant to talk to very open and honest also very funny. I have also thought that richard pitman seems a good person to talk to he also seems very knowledeable about racing and I bet he has plenty of good stories.
Hello Alan Strawballs
No I haven’t heard of Colin Mcilfatrick. Most of the old jockeys I have mentioned rode long before I was born so I don’t remember them riding. I just simply love horse racing and horse racing history that’s why I love hearing all these old stories about racing. Did you ever comes across richard pitman he always seems to be good about talking when he was a jockey I bet he has some good stories.
I thought it was a great race. You know the saying everything that could go wrong did, well this time it was everything that could go right did go right. The start went of fine , no fallers/unseated till the 8th fence (canal turn) 17 finishers and a 66/1 shot winner to show it is still anybodys race. In my opinion the grand national is the greatest race ever.
I think scu is brilliant in my opinion. Yes he can stutter and can be tongue tied, but I think he is one of the most knowledgeable pundits in racing. 8 times champion jump jockey was involved with twiston-davis for years, was a tv pundit for years, has a newspaper column, father and sons are trainers/jockeys, last few years been with lucinda russell. There isn’t much about national hunt racing or racing in general that he doesn’t know about.
p.s his autobiography is very good
