Please stop using washed out colour and grainy footage of any past action when doing a preview etc. Why do it? We know it’s not a live race, it’s just immensely irritating.
Endorse selections nominated by Crepello57, they are favourites of mine too. Great Racehorses by Roger Mortimer and Peter Willett made my Christmas many years ago. Caroline Silver’s book about Lord Derbys stud and youngsters going into training sticks in the mind as a unique insight. Other favourites are Calling the Horses by Peter O’Sullevan and anything by Alan Yuill Walker.Have just got copy of The Story of Your Life by James Lambie which is a well researched enjoyable read.
Yes he’s had a slow start to the season, but do not write off Kieren. It seems he is influential behind the scenes with Godolphin and is likely to pick up rides from that source. Indeed he rode a short priced favourite for them to win at Beverley. On the same card was also a tenacious winning ride on Dalaki for Clive Brittain which looked a completely lost cause two furlongs out. It’s a pity he is no longer getting any rides from some trainers who supported him in recent seasons, but he’s still a force to be reckoned with and could yet have a some big wins through the rest of 2014.
There’s no way Jacob can be criticized for the ride on Bury Parade today as he wasn’t the jockey! I think he is riding well enough currently to retain the confidence of the stable and wish him well in a particularly challenging and demanding role.
The Tuesday afternoon studio guest was Newmarket trainer John Berry. Usually he is reasonably good and knows a lot about international racing. I think he was having a bad day, but working with Robert Cooper can’t be easy. Found the coverage of the sale at Lingfield (after the seller that is) especially painful!
I do no think Kieren was ever stable jockey as such, it was more a gentleman’s agreement which worked fine for a time. If some of the stable’ s main owners want someone else, that’s their choice, but I can not see why they would do so. I am sure there are many big race wins ahead for both Fallon and Cumani, although having read Chris Cook’ s piece in The Guardian last Saturday, it appears that the relationship is not what it once was.

He did good work during the Olympics, admittedly covering equestrian events. Generally the BBC does really well with its radio coverage on 5 Live, especially the big mid week meetings, which is great if you are out and about but close to a radio set, but John’s absence during G Goodwood is a shame.
