National course is soft, heavy in places and with rain expected for the next 4 days plus 12mm on Monday; the course should be heavy all over. The latter half of the week is going to make all the difference…
So Irish Raptor, Piraya and Mr Pointment are all guaranteed entries with Chelsea Harbour and Razor Royale’s withdrawals.
So Hello Bud now looks like a likely runner, which is good
Aswell as Palypso De Creek.8/9 more withdrawals and Knowhere’s in
I’d say 9 because Whinstone Boy is more likely to get chosen over Knowhere if it came down to a ballot.Think Whinestone Boy will struggle to get in now.
Pipe has all but confirmed his no hopers like Pablo du Charmil and Piraya. Will Mullins follow suit with his non-stayers Deutschland and Dooneys Gate? Will NTD run all seven still?Would like to see Silver Birch and Abbeybraney get in, but even this is looking slightly doubtful now as everything seems to be going for the race.
My exact thoughts, however like i said before; some trainers/owners simply will not run their entries on worse than soft ground, so we may lose a few because of the ground…
This rain is likely to scare off a few runners. Whinstone Boy could just make the cut…
It will be difficult for connections of Madison De Berlais to ignore the Scottish National. With so many in the long handicap (out of the weights), he’d have a much better chance in that. With the bonus of carrying 10stone 1lb, instead of 11st 10lbs.
Apparently they’re leaning towards the National…
Has anything been said about Madison De Berlais participation?
Could Notre Pere run if it comes up soft?
All we’ve heard from Pipe is that they are unsure whether to go for the national or the race he won last year on the Thursday…
I reckon Notre Pere’s running regardless of the ground. It’s been his target pretty much all season…
not sure if already been mentioned but air force one, to miss both grand national and irish, in favour for betfred gold cup
Yeah just read it on the RacingUK site. Bit disappointing as i was hoping for him to have gotten in last year, but again he git withdrawn…
Looks like heavy if you believe this:

I’d hold off having a bet until Thursday at the earliest.

That’s Thursday the 8th.

Been 9 years since our last heavy national… used to have them every 3/4 years…
Aintree has rain for the next 4 days… g/f… you sure?
It’s been raining for days and the forecast says we’re expecting more. I think we may be looking at a soft National this year. With a bit of luck we could get heavy

Some of my all time favourite Nationals took place on heavy going (i.e 1980, 94, 98, 01)
As long as there are 12 withdrawals that allow Knowhere to squeeze in i’ll be happy

Paul Townend is getting the leg up on Arbor while AP ig on Can’t Buy Time. I think AP’s getting the raw end of the deal in this one.
March 29, 2010 at 14:58 in reply to: Grand National ,worst horse and one who boxed above itself #286289Was it the same year that Tom Morgan was rocket launched from Little Polveir??
I shouldnt laugh but that was funny and once again I dont know why I laughed cos I backed it cos I used to follow John Edwards horses. The very same.
Shame Little Polveir was denied a double win because there’s no doubt he had that race won…
Does anyone know the current state of the ground at Aintree? It’s been pretty much none stop raining for the last week and was wondering whether my heavy national could be so? I know it’s still 2 weeks away, but a good head start helps.
I’ve had a decent bet on The Package at 20s, Arbor Supreme at 25s, Comply or Die e/w at 25s, Irish Raptor e/w at 40s and a rank outsider e/w at 150s, namely Ollie Magern – don’t ask me why on the last named, i don’t know why either!

Ollie Magern is not a silly bet. Look at his finished this season. He’s been finishing so well. Look at some of his finishes this season…
He only just lost the Charlie Hall. He wasn’t tiring at the end either, just outpaced by the younger rivals.
He stayed on in the Aon. Sure he was behind, but he still stayed on…
He was 2 lengths away from being 4th in the Racing Post Chase. I couldn’t believe the amount of ground he made to even be 6th!
And in the William Hill he kept on to be less than a head away from being 5th…
I think a further distance, such as the Nationals, will be perfect for him. He jumps well and i think he’ll stay.
I actually had a National dream the other day (my Gold Cup dream was pretty accurate
)The ground was really heavy and there was about 6 fallers at the first (4 having been brought down including Cloudy Lane)
Black Apalachi fell towards the rear at the second or third and by the time they were at Foinavon for the first time there were only 8 left… including Maljimar.
The finish included horses that aren’t entered though, so needless to say i’m not beaming with confidence with this one.
I always tell myself that i’m going to stick to my pre-race shortlist… but i can so see myself going for another 2 or 3 on the day itself; namely Maljimar, Snowy Morning and Cloudy Lane.
Right now my list is…
Black Apalachi
Ellerslie George
Hello Bud
Notre Pere
Preists Leap
Knowhere
Ollie Magern…Add another three on there and i’ll have a quarter of the field selected.
