there’s been a bit of money for xtension today 25’s in to 16’s, i haven’t heard anything from clive cox’s stable, has anyone. I’m surprised he’s been backed in was beaten by canford early in the season, won a slowly run race at goodwood only beating mata kerajang a length or so, then 3rd in a blanket finish to beethoven and fencing master in the dewhurst.

The Guineas is getting closer and as usual trainers are be bullish about the chances of their horses, but I think this years Guineas main contenders will not be suited be a mile. Here’s my opinion

St Nick, fencing master and elusive pimernel will need further
Canford, awzaan and arcano will be better over 6f or 7f
Inler very very very over rated
cape blanco looked big and will probably come to hand a bit later in the season
xtension been taken off his feet in the early stages of his races and been beaten can’t see that changing at newmarket
workforce a very strong contender if he can get over his inexperiance
Hearts of fire a true miler and has improved in every race and i think the winner

so what’s everyones opinion on Inler, he’s been backed in from 33’s to 20’s today, Mr Findlay must think he’s got a chance. He won well at Newmarket in October although not beating a great deal

Zarkava, we’re all entitled to our opinions re foaling dates but if they were as important as you suggest, and as we know the most important stage of a racehorses racing career is its 3 year old career and if it had such a detrimental effect being a late foal, then I find it hard to believe that someone like John Magnier would pay £200,000 for SNA an april born foal. I’m not saying it doesn’t have any bearing to the horses development but in my opinion it shouldn’t affect your choice in a race, as you generally pick a horse based on current form. Obviously this will only apply if the horse has run before, e.g my point about Hearts of Fire winning the Brocklesby

I still think foaling dates aren’t important, if they are then it doesn’t look good for SNA foaled 13th April. I’ll stay with who I think gets a mile the best and for me thats Hearts of Fire to win and Workforce the place, we’ll know in 7 weeks time

Being a late foal is not an issue in my opinion Hearts of Fire won the Brocklesby Condition Stakes on the 27th March 2009 and he was foaled on the 22nd April 2007. He looked weak in the paddock that day but showed what all good horses have, a good turn of foot. I’m not sure what happened to him over his next few races, maybe the distances were too short for him, but when you think he had the speed to win a 5 furlong race at the begining of the season and both speed and stamina to win a fast run Group 1 race on soft ground at the end of the season, showing a great turn of foot, the current price of 33-1 seems more than generous to me. Lets hope Pat Eddery can put his name on the 2000 guineas as a trainer as well as a jockey

Hi All, interesting points have been made, I think if SNA runs to the racing post trophy form he will definately be placed (i don’t think he’ll win) but it is a big if, ground at newmarket will be good/good to firm, racing post trophy winners generally don’t go on to be milers at 3, also only 1 favorite has won the guineas in the last 15 years. Most of the first ten in the betting are either bred for a mile and a half or bred as sprinters. so if you look for a proper miler look at Hearts of Fire, bred by 1st season sire Firebreak who was a miler, look back in his pedegree and there’s milers. He won a Group 1 in Milan in October over a mile last year,in a good time and showed an impressive turn of foot coming from last place a good 12 lengths off the pace and at 33’s is a good bet.
