Me too Pilgarlic – not too many classic runners emanate from Staffordshire yards. My memory may be playing me tricks but I remember a Martin Julien statistics annual where he rated jockies based on how horses performed for them compared with other jockies. All the big names were at near the top of the list but above them all was Tony Ives.

I have exactly the same memory as you Moehat. It was in the Sun Alliance Chase. Norman risked his own safety to save the horse and irrespective of his capabilities as a jockey I respected him greatly afterwards.
