Yes, can anything beat New Approach in this weak renewal of a race that is really suffering because of its proximity to the Breeders’ Cup meeting?
Full of Gold and Linngari are the other (weak) Group 1 winners in the lineup, but I can’t see either of them being up to the task. Will Russian Cross/Twice Over/Famous Name provide the competition?
Sorry not to see any of the fillies run.
AOB has said he is preparing Hebridean for the race.
However, like you, MDeering, I wonder if he will run a filly as well. (Hebridean is a gelding, and Coolmore would not have a problem with one of their fillies beating him.)
O’Brien has stated that Halfway to Heaven may go to the US for either the Mile or the Filly and Mare Turf. The first race should be for Henry surely, and either Listen or You’resothrilling would be more likely than HTH to get the 11 furlongs of the filly race. If she is ready to race again after her exertions in the Sun Chariot, why not try her against the boys, especially since the race seems to be cutting up.
Obviously, today’s 5 day decs will clarify the picture. HTH, Listen and YST are all entered at this point – but this afternoon?
All of them would have a mountain to climb in the Champion, of course, but I’d love to see Halfway to Heaven run.
Thanks, david, you are a star – and a mighty quick one too!

What is going to happen to all our Abbaye bets? Will they stand as is, or can we have another go when we see the re-formed field?

Very thoughtful and interesting post, Mark.
There are three pacemakers due to run in tomorrow’s Moulin. They will be coupled in the betting with their stablemates. What, if any, would the consequence for the preferred runner be if its pacemaker were disqualified for interfering with another horse?
I don’t know the French rules in this case and would appreciate some enlightenment.
Do pacemakers have to be ridden to obtain their best possible placing? Is this the rule in France as well as Britain? Doesn’t coupling in betting get round this difficulty? Patently pacemakers are usually ridden to try to provide the ideal pace for their more illustrious stablemate, and this often seems to make a mockery of the best possible placing rule.
I guess the drift of this post is that if pacemaking is deemed acceptable, wouldn’t coupling in betting get rid of some, not all, of the problems?
What are the arguments against it?
Thanks in advance.

AOB said:
Conditions are far from ideal for him [DOM], but the owners are prepared to let him take his chance.
This sounds to me that AOB is reluctant to let him run but has been overruled. Btw, he usually calls them "the lads", not "the owners".
Will New Approach run? I wonder. I would guess JB (and the Sheikh of course) would only run him if he were fit, so I wouldn’t worry too much on that score.
If New Approach does not run, is there anything in this field to seriously challenge the Duke??????
Shame about Red Rock Canyon having to be the bridesmaid again – I guess (after the dodgy pacemaking in the Sussex) he wants to rely on a classy and proven pacemaker.Very disappointed not to see Famous Name entered.
I reckoned him to have a lively chance and had thought that he had been laid out for this race since the Prix du Jockey Club. Does anyone know why he’s not entered? Weld’s stable in good form – hope Famous Name isn’t injured.- AuthorPosts
