In defence of AP – he had gone to start and probably missed most of what happened. From what has been released so far it does not sound like a specific electrical fault has been found…no danger to human life etc etc. It would be comforting to find a precise cause. I presume post mortem will eliminate these

    Wireless long-range electric shock weapon

Taser International said they had finished developing a long-range wireless electro-shock projectile called XREP (eXtended Range Electro-Muscular Projectile), which can be fired from any 12-gauge shotgun. It contains a small high-voltage battery. Its range is currently 100 feet (30 m), but the U.S. Department of Defense, which has funded development of the technology, expects delivery of a 300 feet (91 m) range projectile of this type from the company in 2007.[7] An XREP projectile was controversially used by British police during the 2010 Northumbria Police manhunt [8] It subsequently transpired that the XREP has never been officially approved for use in the United Kingdom and the weapon system was provided unrequested to the police at the scene directly by the civilian company which distributes Taser International’s products in the UK. The company’s license to provide Taser systems was afterwards revoked by the Home Secretary Theresa May.[9]

The Leyden Gun is another long-range electrick shock weapon being developed by Nova Technologies in cooperation with Oleg Nemtyshkin. This weapon uses simple needles rather than barbed darts and these do not stick to the target but instead administer a single jolt from a high-voltage capacitor. Range is 30 meters, the same as the XREP.[10]

Animal aid will have a right go at this race …they used this is press release earlier this month

Dorans Pride, was a 14-year-old veteran when he suffered a fatal fall. Dorans Pride had been raced 73 times in his life, and earned his owners more than £650,000. In the run-up to the March 2003 Cheltenham Festival, he had already been raced four times that year.

I believe what segal wrote is that AP wouldnt have been his first, second, third, fourth or fifth choice for Denman.

Ruby, Barry G and Sam Thomas would have been three of the five. The other two I dont know – maybe Russell and Fehily.

I dont think he actually meant that these five men were better jockeys than AP – it was just for Denman .

FWIW I think McCoy could have a very good festival and overall probably has a better book of rides than Geraghty. Of course Ruby has far superior ammo to any of them , Big Bucks, Kauto, Masterminded and Quevega will probably all lower SPs than any of McCoy or Geraghtys rides.

Reflected in Jan/ Feb stats too…

    Ruby 48 ( Uk & ire) winners in 2010, Geraghty 31, McCoy 22 ( before today) .

    jock total F/U %
    ruby ..3047 ..145 ..4.76%
    sam ..1841 ….91 ..4.94%
    tony ..3320 ..133 ..4.01%

Percentage Fell or Unseated compared to all rides since Jan 2005. Not much in it.

Interesting. You could also interpret this as saying that sam is c25% more likely to fall than mcoy athough . Can you get stats for all three since start of November ?

Poster of the year Irish Stamp :)

I have been more of a lurker than a poster here but a few thoughts.

AP has to be on the shortlist for jockey of the year …he should also be on the hero of the year list for efforts he made to get fit for the festival ( though I would also endorse Mick Fitz for hero) .

I would like to suggest Conor Clarkson as owner of the year . Dont think he has too many but he had his second Cheltenham winner with Finger on the pulse and more significantly did the right thing with Kicking King – gave him his chance but also made the decent decision to retire him when he saw he would not be a grade 1 horse again.

My favourites beside those aready listed would be :

    http://form.horseracing.betfair.com/

    http://www.goracing.ie

and http://www.brucebetting.com at weekends for the excellent Donn Mc Clean

setanta sports news is also improving.

The Irish Sports section of betfair is occasionally good for insightful analysis from likes of centerfield, keenleader, monksfield, platini, prospero, irish whisper and the recently hounded out EMI.

Once he wasnt too fresh Moscow would win every time. With benefit of hindsight I wondered whether they shouldnt have tried Moscow over 3 in his final year .Barry G always said he would have got the three miles.

Pity Foot and Mouth robbed us of Moscow Flyer vs Istrabraq at cheltenham but I guess he might never have gone chasing then :) .
