If pacemakers are ridden out then there’s nothing wrong with them. People crab races (i.e the 1000 Guineas) for no pace and on the other hand disapprove of pacemakers.
Look at the Irish Champion Stakes last year (best race I’ve seen) – the pacemakers were controversial but they set it up for a duel between the big two and Give The SLip never hindered Galileo, he was just there and Galileo had to go wide. And that sole incident is not why Galileo lost.
I never heard Lahinch was a pacemaker. I couldn’t find pace in the race and I knew Frankie would make the running on Kazzia as she stays.
I think if a stable states a horse is a pacemaker then a "P" should be on the racecard in the same way a "t" is for a tonguestrap so punters know the situation.
Looking at the list of National horses there is a still a slim chance Moor Lane could get in (and no, I didn’t back him).
At number 62 is Scotton Green, who is another good staying chaser that won’t get in. I’m thinking it’s a case of so many decent enough National type horses trying to get into one race. So there should be this substitute National for the ones ballotted out even though it’s nothing like the real thing. At least a race like that could get those ones a good handicap mark so they could contest the National itself a year later if still in training…
Moor Lane should get in the National – Martin Pipe has multiple entries and that isn’t fair on other trainers or owners that want to get in. Pipe can by all means have more than just one runner but realistically how many have got a serious chance of winning or getting round?
There appears to be some sort of irregularity in the handicapping system…
Jimmy Lindley is just tedious on the BBC – Francome and McGrath are the best on Channel 4.
Why isn’t Luke Harvey on the Racing Channel in the list?? He is as irritating as hell!
