It seems to me that you’ll never ever get a Sunday evening meeting
in the UK, it goes against "tradition" if the uk authorities had their way
there’d be no racing whatsoever on a Sunday, but they can’t afford to
stop it cos of the revenue it brings. Ireland take a more relaxed approach
to times and fixtures, hence the ballinrobe meeting this evening. An unpleasant piece written with the sneer of someone who believes the world begins and ends with the witterers on ‘Newnight Review’ – Thank Goodness It’s Friday, darling
Other than that I have to say I preferred both Bookmakers and Pubs when they were the smoky louche somewhat forbidding dirty dives they were meant to be: temples of despair both, where we dreggy disciples of misery could while away a few hours of our pathetic little lives with heads full of Racing and guts full of Best Bitter – and nothing but Racing and Best Bitter – before crawling off louse-and-wig like to safety of the up-turned stone
They’re all just too clean, sanitized, comfortable, acceptable and…confusing now
To paraphrase Ken Dodd:
The trouble with Bryony is that she never played second house Saturday night at the Glasgow Empire after Celtic and Rangers had both lost
You’re bang on with that. Well said.
Matthew’s done his money on another short-price favourite and can’t accept it, hence it must have been a bad ride.
true.
It was a bad ride though.
It was indeed Martin Dwyer. He was the very definition of contorted with pain – looked a horrid incident for him.
gc
Yeah I thought I’d got it right, it was horrible to watch, clearly
the boozed up racegoers didn’t realise the extent as they started
wolf whistling and laughing when he threw his hat to the floor, hopping
around. It’s a cruel game.Did anyone see Basle & David Probert come to grief at Newmarket yesterday? I heard there was trouble in the stalls & I saw Probert roll backwards out of them & in some pain, but I didn’t know what had happened until this morning.
My question really is that the report said the filly flipped over in the stalls. Is that a freak accident or does it happen often?
No it’s a rare occurance thankfully.
However, did anyone see an incident on Lingfields AW track starting stalls, when
a jockey was kicked and the jockey In terrible pain was hobbling around
and threw his hat to the floor? It happened a couple of weeks ago.Was it Martin Dwyer? Not sure?
How could it of taken the lead horse over two out????
When Jimmy did use the whip and ask his mount to quicken he didn’t quicken whatsoever so why would he of quickened two out if asked???
When he did challenge the RJ horse he couldn’g go by, or even come close to, so why would the result of been different had the front two battled earlier?
the horse clearly didn’t react to the whip, therefore, they were almost level two out, get your head down and ride it more vigourously without the whip.
Kick on.
Horses just didn’t find anything under pressure off an increased weight from last time.
This horses has basically been pulled up in all 6 hurdle starts and 1 of his chases. He manages to win a terrible race at Towcester and ends up an odds on shot??? Bookmakers dream.
Horses just isn’t very good
I agree the horse isn’t very good but it wasn’t given a good ride, it should have won, the jockey could have taken Johnsons horse two out and kicked on, as I said before, McCoy would have won on it.
…You get what you pay for….
£20 admission for Fontwell and £21 Goodwood this weekend, what bargains, eh?
That near £2 million card at Auteuil yesterday must have been pretty rubbish then – it only cost 8 Euros to get in.
The prices for Fontwell and Goodwood yesterday sound excessive, I was referring to Classic meeting prices in the posh enclosures, great racing, fantastic atmosphere and lastly, full of quality Totty!
Its always hard to swallow when horses dont find anything under pressure but I would have to say Jimmy did nothing wrong, he was quite clearly right to hold on for as long as he could before asking a serious question as when he did the horse found nothing and if anything the horse in front (whom himself looked tired) actually was going away at the line.
Clearly a horse who finds nothing for pressure, combine that with Towcester and its not a good result.
The jockey did nothing wrong, the horse just isnt very good. Flat track next time might win
Nah, that was a bad ride. Put McCoy on that horse it would have won. Sorry.
Best northern based jockey at the moment and
possibly a future champion, don’t think he’s anywhere
near as good as Moore at the moment though.I’ve lost thousands due to dealing with these type of idiots.
it’s cost me bundles rather, down to the staff at Ladbrokes.
You clearly aren’t getting my point.
I look at admission prices in two ways….
1). It’s overpriced for classic meetings, especially for your
average man on the street, but the organisers aren’t bothered as
they know they’ll be wealthy people who will pay whatever it costs.2). You get what you pay for and even if the premier enclosures cost
you say £50? I’ll probably have at least £50 on the first Race anywayIf Ladbrokes has a customer service division it takes up no more space than a shoebox in the broom cupboard. Staff training is lamentable. Worse than Greggs and that’s saying something.
It’s absolutely disgusting to be honest.
Never saw it but I find him a very ‘hit and miss’ jockey,
he’s alright at Brighton or Wolverhampton especally when riding
for Prescott, other than that mundane now.For the length of the parade ring side accessible to the public 84% is in the "main" Dutchess enclosure and 16% in the Queen’s Stand enclosure.
Paul, I have to say I’m finding the accuracy of your measurements converted in percentages slightly scary.
Have you actually had the measureing tape out
Denman.
People that work in bookmakers are generally
thick and clueless. Many of them have an attitude aswell
and have the communication skills of a Lizard.I find alot of them hate paying you out aswell, acting like
it’s their money.Ladbrokes I find to be the worst, dreadful, they employ any
old sole. Also, I have a debit account with Ladbrokes and the call centre
staff are the thickest people you could ever deal with, if you phone
up and for example want to back Roger Federer to beat Rafa in running,
surely that isn’t difficult to be aware that’s a Tennis match? By the time
they’ve been advised or worked it out you’re about 2 minutes on the phone
and quite often the price has changed or the betting
has suspended. It never favours you it seems. I’ve lost thousands
due to dealing with these type of idiots.Surely, Ladbrokes could afford to organise an induction course
for new employees, I’ve closed my account there now as it’s cost me
too much, mainly by their errors.I will however say that I find Stan James call centre staff to be extremely
knowledgable and good to deal with though. -
