Win – Santos Blue (res rare edition)
Ew – Issan ( Res arquoob)Anyone who had a bet before racing started must be livid.
Just like jockeys ,trainers and owners get punished if they make mistakes. Surely the clerk of the course shud have some sort of fine or punishment for getting things so wrong and then not owning up when their mistake becomes apparent.
Win – Iberico Lord (Reserves: Norman Fletcher)

Laytown is flat only but yes probably needs a category all of its own.
I reckon the camera angles at Tramore probably don’t do it justice, I always think you need a jockey there who knows how to ride the course well. It can seem impossible to win from off the pace there when you watch it but seen it done plenty enough.
Leopardstwon definitely my favourite, didn’t comprehend the long uphill finish till I saw it in the flesh and according to google stiffer than cheltenham.
Punchestown was a great track to visit, loads of space to move about and no stress getting anything you wanted.
I would encourage anyone who hasn’t been racing in Ireland to try it – the only downside is you will feel short changed forever more by UK tracks and racing.
Great thread Cymro!
I reckon you are about right. the gaff rating seems to follow when they race – gaff ones mostly race in the summer. I would put kilbeggan down as on of the gaffest, the finishing post on the bend always makes me chuckle. Definitely one I would like to visit one day.
I would keep listowel in the gaff category based on the form of that track is rarely much value going into the winter season. Cork is my least favourite, just very dull, flat and uniform. I always find the form at Navan, Naas and Thurles worth following at festivals.
You have missed out Clonmel which I would put in the middle – feels like chepstow the other way round with a much shorter straight. So probably not like Chepstow at all.
Dead right Cork – they complain about prizemoney but then spend ridiculous amounts on horses that can never win it back.
Its clearly a hobby they are willing to spend money on for the days out / fun / thrill / exposure.
I guess the knock on effect could be that complaints about prizemoney don’t actually lead to anything – why would the courses / bookies / BHA shift up if the interest is clearly there to buy and race horses for the current money on offer – certainly at the top end.
I know what you mean Quelle Facrce – I might have imagined it but I’m sure in the early nineties there were some czech trained horses that ran in the grand national and they were given automatic top weight for that reason – no runs in the UK/ ireland.
Maybe rules changed since then or that was specific to the national.
I guess that kind of rule would put off foreign trainers trying to run in UK races but there isn’t exactly lots of those anyway and mostly in level weights or conditions novice chases/ hurdles etc.
That’s for running it Nathan, good fun as always

StarzovWord of caution with these 3 , they have all qualified for the pertempts already.
Last year 121 rating was bottom weight in that and considering the irish horses will likely get 5lbs uplift min for the uk handicapper for cheltenham I can’t see any of these 3 wanting to win or place here.Thats 3 off the list at least :)
Fine Margins 2nd at Haydock looks a solid run and he is in here off a nice mark. fav now though after opening at 8s.
