    Hi Slewman, Ivanjica

some success with Hurry Harriet. Acoording to a contact of mine at horse racing ireland,

"The LIFE colours that we had registered to Dr Malcom D. Thorp were CERISE, black & white striped sleeves, white cap"

    Fills another gap!

Surprisingly similar to Jock Whitney’s colours of the 70s!

Great stuff Mero, always good to see colours portrayed visually rather than just listed!!
Interesting mix of templates – did you create them online? Speking personally, I dont like Allerton’s new images as much as the previous ones!

I have created some excel spreadsheets that generate the gg.com colours if anybody is interested

I agree with Ivanjica’s comments regarding the Paul Duboscq, they are the colours I have for him. Regarding Molvedo, the youtube video (albeit black and white) would tend to indicate NO body markings (the scene where they come back to the unsaddling enclosure) – so can we assume that was just RED, BLACK cap??

Incidentally, does anybody know the colours of "Harvey Cohen" owner of Balla Cove, winner of the Middle Park for Ron Boss in 1989?? I thinks this was probably the only horse he has had, and its the one I am missing from the Middle Park!

Great research – I didn’t even realise there was a video of Molvedo on youtube – yes, I agree the red/black cap must be an odds on fav now.

I got very excited about Balla Cove as I was at the Solario in 1989 – however my racecard tells me he ran in the colours of a Mr J Ellis. However I then remembered I had acquired the racecard for the 1989 Breeders Cup on Ebay however that is less than definitive.

He ran in the juvenile under the trainer Ron McAnally, the owners listed as "Harve C Cohen, Herman King, Dion A Recachna". The colours are as follows:

"Neon Orange, White Music Emblems (single quavers)and Epaulets, Orange Sleevs, White Hoop and Cuffs, Orange and White (quartered cap)."

He actually led the field for quite a long way as in the following footage:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjztpLFNpJY

I would be pretty surprised if he carried those silks in the Middle Park, although orange-ish does now start to ring a bell. I suspect we will have to acquire or hope someone on here has the 1989 middle park racecard. I am pretty sure I dont but will keep digging.

Courtesy of James Lambie (author of a wonderful book entitled "the Story of Your Life" (a history of the Sporting Life Newspaper which I would highly reccomend to anyone), I can confirm that the Life did quote Harvey Cohen’s colours for Balla Cove as "ORANGE, WHITE musical notes, ORANGE and WHITE hooped slvs, ORANGE cap" for the Middle Park, so almost exactly as you said Ivanjica! Interesting that he wwas allowed these in the UK. Maybe there was some reciprocal arrangement regarding colours registered overseas? I remember John Mulhern’s question mark colours being worn regularly over here. Of course, many years ago there weren’t the restrictions there now, are thinking of Mrs Valentine’s PINK, CHERRY hearts!! Dont know about the rest of you but I think racing is the poorer for it!

    Hi All

Ivanjica , I concur with the colours in the 1979 Derby race card and the photo evidence of the finish confirms those colours – ( have also seen a painting of Troy at the start and in the background Dickens Hill is carrying those you describe ).

I got the hooped sleeves and cap version from the Daily Express and Sun ’79 Derby pullout – as they were wrong in both publications wonder how the error occurred ; maybe her “Irish” set ?

Anyway , also have a newspaper clipping of the ’78 Arc in which Jean Pierre owned Frere Basile – dark green black & green halved slvs green cap

So I reckon I need to change :-

    1981 Irish 1000 Arctique Royale ( J-P Binet ) halved slvs version
1981 Irish 2000 Kings Lake ( Mrs J-P ) black hoop black slvs version
    1979 Irish 2000 Dickens Hill ( Mrs J-P ) as above

If anyone has the video review of 1981 , that might be worth a viewing.

    Cheers

    I.

    Thanks I.

I checked the France Galop site and Binets colours on that are as you originally described so maybe they are are his French silks and he had an Irish registered set (the black sleevs and black hoop version) for his horses with messrs O’Brien and O’Toole?

I have found some footage of the Sussex Stakes won by Kings Lake – starts at 0:15 secs – and to thicken the plot further it does seem there is no black hoop which concirs with Slew’s assertion. Although it is not close up enough to be completely definitive. Maybe Coolmore might have photos in their archive that could help. I may write to them.
    Cheers

I have the Sussex Stakes 1981 racecard which confirms MR J P BINET – DARK GREEN, BLACK slvs, DARK GREEN cap (for Kings Lake)

As for Mr Gibson taking over the silks I believe that silks that belonged to very successful owner of the past should be put in a museum and barred. In France you cannot use the Marcel Boussac silks (orange, grey cap) or the Jean Ternynk silks (Green, black cap). Those colours are not available to owners registering silks. Good idea I think. Will we ever see the old Aga Khan’s green and chocolate hoops on a racetrack again owned by a John Citizen?? Hope not.
    :D

    looks like his grandson….

“This has been a lucky race for me as I won it twice with Bishop of Cashel (1994 and 1995), who loved soft ground and this fellow is a different horse when he can get his toe in,” said James Fanshawe after Polar Ben had taken the Group 111 GNER Park Stakes in a driving finish with With Reason and Tarjman.

“He was a bit unlucky at Newmarket last time and for a long time I thought he would not get a run here,” said Fanshawe. “But he is as tough as nails and deserved to win that race. He gets a mile but I do not know what we will do with him next.

“His owner, Simon Gibson, comes from a family which has had a lot of winners over the years and his grandfather, Lord Glanely, owned the only Derby winner to be trained at my yard. That was Grand Parade, who was trained by Frank Barling and won the Derby in 1919, ridden by Fred Templeman.

“Another member of the family was David Gibson, who rode a lot of jumping winners as an amateur, including three Grand Military Gold Cups on Klaxon.”

Those Irish 1000 Guineas colours for princess polly will be a tough one to get unless Irish turf authority can assist.

Runners and silks for Tuesday’s St James’ Palace Stks on the link.

    Irish authorities can help!!

"I have a Kerry B. Fitzpatrick (American Gent) listed as the owner of Prince’s Polly and trained by D.K. Weld. His colours were Red & white check, red sleeves, red cap, white spots."

BTW, were you the person who posted the japanese yahoo auctions link some time back on here? http://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/130703176

As you can see the auction finished but I am unable to navigate from this page anymore to the pages and pages of racecards it showed. Any idea what the link is to the page for racecard auction lists is? They seem to have more photos on that site than ebay where more often than not the sellers post a picture of the racecards front page. Maybe the Japanese rules are tighter but certainly on European and US auctions they always seemed to have two sometimes three pictures which was of great assitance to us!

It was me with the jaoanese site, but apart from using google translate which translates the home page ok, it doesn’t help with searching! The only other one I have found is:
    http://www.jauce.com/index.php
    but this looks very restricted.

Le Bavard definitely ran in the Black and Red of henri Aubert in the 1975 Ascot Gold Cup (from the racecard), as did Puissant Chef in the 1960 Arc (albeit my phot is black and white).

Mrs Plesch is more confusing – all references I have in racecards (and the B&H book) suggest "LIGHT BLUE, SCARLET spots" which would indicate spots on the cap. BUT the 1966 Tote Racing Annual specifically records colours for Arpad plesch as the same but with a light blue cap (although the picture of Waldmeister has spots on the cap!!!!).

The 1964 Ruffs has both colours listed the same (i.e spots on the cap). Maybe its just another case of somebody leaving the proper cap at home on race day!!!!

    Slewman

an old chestnut Mrs Franklyn – discussed at length on earlier pages BUT never with a satisfactory conclusion – I think we agreed with the old gold but could never establish what colour the braid might be – maybe it was gold too and was just decoration??
Sorry no great help, but could you advise where to find the jpeg you refer to – would be good to see it.
On a separate note, I came across this that you may have seen:

    http://www.horseracingnation.com/tophorses.aspx

when researching which may be of interest with regards American owners in the future!!!!

Tend to agree with Slewman – certainly looks like black hoop on the film, and that would tie in with

    Blanche, cercle noir, t. rouge

    wouldn’t it

but the red hat (rouge)leads more towards the Macdonald-Buchanan’s
WHITE, BLACK hoop and armlets, RED cap

but its definitely a pale colour on the film!!!!
