Agreed VtoC but interestingly didn’t run in his black/red colours??
Numerate is interesting… may have been bought by "Malcolm F Giles" just before the race and ran in his colours??
My missing ones are:
1983 Fillies Mile Nepula S. Al Qemias
1962 Gordon Gay Challenger Mrs M. V. Philipps
1957 Coronation Cup Fric M. Calmann
1955 Sussex Stakes My Kingdom J. Armstrong/W Nightingall
1952 Richmond Artane J. O’Connell
1946 Hunt Cup Friar’s Fancy Mr O. V. Watney
1925 Gold Cup Ballinode C.Bentley
1979 Supreme Nov Stranfield D Devlin
1967 Byrne Grp French March Mrs Tom Hanbury
1973 Supreme Nov King Pele J Richardson
1974 Neptune Inv Brown Lad J Osborne
1967 Ryanair Prince Blarney Mrs M BlairFrom the Daily Express 1963 Grand national:
MOYRATH (Mrs RL Johnson) – WHITE, RED sleeves, quartered cap
COLLEGE DON (mrs I Watts) – RED YELLOW hoops and spots on cap
The latter are the same colours as the trainer of College Don – Bill Watts (WC Watts) so I assume she was his wife.
Agree with VtoC about 1988 except
Pollys Pal x belts are described as Maroon, and
Tullamarine jacket as Emerald green
1983
Delmoss – check capCol. Christy – black armlets as well
Keengaddy – pink cap
Aerogel boy – GREY diamond on body and cap
Monty Python – Blue sleeves, yellow cap, blue star
That’s it – GOLD stars on body, white star on blue cap
And very pedantic but
Memford is Emerald Green
Monty Python royal blue
Williamson DARK green
1966
Macs Flare – Blue, Black cap, White spots
Flame cap – Yelloe, Pink slvs, Yellow cap , pink hoop1961
Kerforo – Leinster Tartan, Lemon. Slvs and capDaily Express
Hi Isinglass
1989
Queensway Boy – white, royal blue star, royal blue and white check capPolar Nomad – Maroon, Dark Blue stripe and slvs, White cap
Numerate – Red, Black star and slvs, Black cap, Red star
Merlin – Pink, Purple diamond, slvs and diamond on cap
From Daily Mirror of that day
LORD GRANARD did indeed have the same colours as Lady Granard – BLACK, RED stars and cap. Lady Granard (or Beatrice Forbes) was the daughter of Ogden Mills and had a huge racehorse string for many years until her death in January 1992, when her son Arthur (who by now was Lord Granard as his father had died) inherited the horses. They included Calve and a few average ones trained by John Dunlop in the 80s (Bold Rex?). I have a racecard from Haydock in 1985 that confirms the colours
I know its being pedantic but the 1983 Coronation Stakes racecard officially describes Miss O’Kelly’s colours (Flame of Tara) as
CERISE jacket and sleeves, SKY BLUE cap with CERISE hoop, just in case anybody is that meticulous!Last "random" Grand National question for a while ( well 2 weeks maybe ) – anyone know the colours carried by Rosinver Bay in the 1969 National ? Owned by AW Riddell Martin – from watching the video on YouTube , and by process of elimination , they look dark with a yellow sash ??
BLACK, PRIMROSE sash, collar and cuffs, BLACK cap, from the Daily Express of the day!
Incidentally, the same Mr Riddell-Martin that owned Lough Inagh who won the 1975 Champion ChaseSorry if I have wated anybodys time, just managed to find a pic on the internet of the 1998 bumper and the colours were ROYAL BLUE, PINK star, PINK sleeves, ROYAL BLUE stars, PINK cap, ROYAL BLUE stars (visual description only) if anyone was interested!!
Having completed most of the cheltenham biggest races, I was looking at the "newer" ones. Anyone know what colours Alexander banquet carried when winning the bumper in 1999 ? The owner was Martin Swarbrick, but by 2000 he was owned by Mrs O’Callaghan. I saw a video of MR Ruby walsh riding him recently but didnt think to register the colours!
Thanks Slewman, I agree with Mrs Hausmann’s colours (although I thought it was a striped cap), but the question is is she the same Mrs A Hausmann who owned Flirting Around?
Hi Isinglass,
your missing National colours:
(taken from collection of Daily Express papers)1971 Gay Buccaneer RW McKeever
WHITE, GREEN and BLACK halved cap1972 Lisnaree Mrs Ornelia Mancinelli
BROWN, WHITE hoop, GREEN cap1974 Mill Door WE Lipka
BLACK, ORANGE star and capHi Isinglass,
Champion Hdle 1963 Winning Fair George Spencer
I have found a Mr G H Spencer in the Steeple-Chasing colours section of the 1949 Ruff’s Guide. Not sure if it is the George Spencer of Winning Fair fame but it would seem likely:
Light Blue, Dark Blue Sleeves, Red and White Qtd Cap
I have different colours for George Spencer being, YELLOW, RED hoop, RED and GREEN quartred cap]. However, I will have to turn some files upside down to remmber where I got them from.. I guess it was from the Irish Racing Authorities because I believe he trained /lived in Ireland
Thanks guys, if it is the Mrs Hausmann that Isinglass refers to, it would make her the same owner as MONTCONTOUR – winner of the Hardwicke in 1978 where she was described as Mme H Hausmann (not A)? However, Montcontour was trained in France (by Maurice Zilber) so it might be the same lady, but we cannot be sure (racecard needed i think!!)
Just reviewing missing colours for Royal Ascot, anybody know Mme A Hausmann’s colours as carried by Flirting Around when winning Kings Stand in 1975?
Hi Isinglass
Mr F Feeney – MAUVE, YELLOW cap with MAUVE hoops
from an old racecard and Daily Express of Royal Ascot 1975!
