Well, on the plus side, I had 16/1, 14/1 and 12/1 about the winner ante-post, but I didn’t actually win much on the race because I also had 10/1 Premier Magic and bottled it and saved on Its On The Line at 5/2 AND Ferns Lock!
The best Point judge I know had a really good bet on the winner, though.
As for the race, I thought Its On The Line ran to his mark and ran his race, but the mare made it third time lucky at Cheltenham and continued her progress under an inspired ride from John Dawson to make the most of the gender allowance and get up to win.
She’s only an 8yo and there’s more good races in her.
Time Leader has run a stormer and a career best over a trip plenty far enough for him as I’d say the Aintree Foxhunters’ (he was fifth in it last year) would suit him better.
D’Jango, clearly sweetened up by a change of yards, has run right up to his mark to be fourth, old Billaway has plugged on to be fifth and even older Shantou Flyer was sixth.
Ferns Lock never gave himself a chance to stay, Premier Magic and Quintin’s Man have disappointed and Samcro is the reason why these regressive former stars should not be touched with a barge pole in these races.
Cracking race – looking forward to Aintree now where Macklin and Famous Clermont may enter calculations.

“So why didn’t you tip the winner to us?”
Because I’m horrible, Moehat. Anyway, a good judge like you doesn’t need tips – I bet you had bundles on the mare!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"Grittar was sixth in the Gold Cup the year he won the Grand National.
7/1 NRNB with Hills cannot possibly last – punters are asking for that, all in, run or not, on the machine and he’s 6/1 and 5/1 with the other books.
Got a touch of the Red Rum/Tiger Roll about him and I could see him going off about 9/2 fav on the day.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"Think yourselves lucky – if I was Mullins I would have long since started taking the proverbial at these interviews….
“Ballyburn? I think we might aim him at Royal Ascot now. No, not the Gold Cup, the King’s Stand Stakes.”
“El Fabiolo? He’s such a fluent jumper he will be getting a Pardubice entry.”
“Majborough? I don’t actually think he’s a horse. A career in politics beckons for him. He’s actually surprisingly left wing.”
“Galopin Des Champs? He’s now off to the Middle East to sort out the issues there.”

Thanks for confirming everything I always suspected about you, Mike.
I always thought in reality you know next to nothing about this game but, in fact, it’s even less than that.
Sine Nomine had an OR of 124 going into this race, you can add 7lb for her gender allowance and she beat a gelding with one of 142, the general standard for this contest.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"Bad day for the Irish at Fakenham today – in fact, I think they’ve given up on trying to compete at this fixture.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"Mullins doesn’t ask to be interviewed and if he’s asked a question, he can’t be blamed for answering it.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"I’d say it’s a high-quality field in the context of the race – it will take a current OR140 plus display to win it – hence the smaller number of runners this year.
Looking forward to it – it’s my Cheltenham Gold Cup.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"British racing struggles for the reasons it always did.
I’m personally glad we don’t have a Tote/Pari-Mutuel monopoly, but it means poor prize money, particularly at the bottom.
I’d date the rise of the Irish at Cheltenham to them joining the Euro, having a stronger currency and the cream of the Irish stores staying more in Ireland.
Success breeds success and once Mullins et al started getting top quality stock and winning big races most wanted their horses trained by him/them.
But Britain’s woes have nothing to do with its big races being won by foreign yards – that’s happened for centuries on and off and only matters to those attached to British yards, your average punter doesn’t care where the winner they backed is trained – and the score in the Prestbury Cup is just a high-profile peg to hang alarm bells on, most U.K. trainers could only dream of having a runner at the meeting anyway.
I’ve nothing against Blake – one of the more intelligent members of the media (though that’s not hard) – and invoking his name in the thread title was pure clickbait learned off clickbait God ERL here! – but the score after Day Two told us nothing we didn’t already know and anyway it’s the bottom end of UK racing most in need of help, not those still competing at the top.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"I agree it’s at risk, but not for the reasons stated by those who seem to be judging the need for alarm on how the Prestbury Cup is going.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"“Seem” – it’s a perception, Gladders.
You, GT and others can be into this game on any level you wish, but the perception for me is you are only interested in what happens at the top of the sport and I judge your analysis of the health of British racing accordingly.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"“What’s the point?”
The fact some have said this is an interesting thread is point enough, GT.
Of course I understand Blake’s point – but his words are just those of someone immersed in racing sensationalising a short-term event at the top of said sport.
Cycles of elite sporting domination are as old as the hills and anyway only yesterday there was a British resurgence.
As usual, the focus is on what is happening at the top of this sport which, also, let’s remind ourselves, is just a sport despite apocalyptic words which might suggest otherwise.
Yes, British racing is struggling on many levels, but it’s low prize money at the bottom, not overseas pillaging of races at the top, that is the real cause for concern.
Basing an assessment on the overall national health of a sport on what happens at the top meetings is facile, even puerile – it’s what is happening on a bread and butter day-to-day basis that matters most.
Your contemptuous comment about donkey derbys possibly betrays an elitism and myopic interest only in the sport’s elite events.
That’s your prerogative but it means your analysis and that of those like you barely scratches the surface.
For ditto anyone who judges British racing on how it does at the big meetings.
In my opinion.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"I just love threads like this – it’s the perpetual looking to the ante-post future that helps make TRF what it is.
My contribution at this juncture is going to be an “anti-Ante-Post” (work THAT out) one.
I can’t have this year’s Supreme throwing up a future Champion Hurdler – it just wasn’t a vintage renewal as evidenced by the winner being slaughtered by the brilliant Ballyburn last time out.
And much though I like Fact To File and consider him a progressive prospect, that wasn’t a vintage Broadway either and the placed horses have about as much chance of winning a Cheltenham Gold Cup as I have.
Gaelic Warrior, however, will win whatever race he runs in at the 2025 Cheltenham Festival as will Ballyburn.
Thank you and goodnight.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"Like El Fabiolo, I consider Galopin Des Champs hugely talented but not the most natural or fluent of jumpers and his Cheltenham Chase form figures are “F1.”
But he has jumped better on his last two outings and I attribute this to Softer ground and a slower tempo.
Had the ground dried out to Good, I’d have thought him vulnerable to a strong pace, even though he won easily last year after as sketchy a round of jumping from a Cheltenham Gold Cup winner as you will ever see.
But there will be plenty of give, they’ll go a pace he will be comfortable jumping at and it may take an act of God to stop him.
And I say that holding a win only 20/1 Fastorslow bet ante-post.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"Premier Magic hasn’t had a massive amount of racing (23 starts) in his life and I believe horses are a bit like cars inasmuch as it’s miles on the clock, not age, that sometimes matters most, but he’s 11 now and the fav is only a 7yo.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"“Ian where do you think Samcro will finish , I take it your in the Premier Magic camp”
Samcro loves Cheltenham and obviously he was on a different level to these in his prime.
But I’ve made my money long term out of these races over the years by opposing regressive ex-rules horses like Samcro and the bottom line is he got beat five lengths in a Point last time out, he didn’t look much like a Ballymore/Turners winner that day and was he ever really a stayer anyway?
An extended 3m2f could bottom him.
He’s a double-digit price, but he can win without my money on him unless he drifts to something stupid.
I’ve got 10/1 Premier Magic in my backer’s book on this race and he’s done nothing wrong in two bloodless Point wins, but you have to wonder if Its On The Line, the much younger runner up last year, hard race (though he’s lazy and maybe only does enough) at Naas last time out notwithstanding, might improve past him this year.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"She won as she pleased at Wetherby, Bennys King franked the form at Leicester and in John Dawson she has a top pilot in this sphere.
The worry is she’s disappointed both visits to Cheltenham so far and the suspicion is she’s best on a flat left handed track.
