I always remember Decoupage hacking up in the Tote Gold Trophy in 1999 as it was the first ‘proper’ bet I had had; as I was only 14 I had given £150 to my dad to put on at 6/1 and spent the majority of the race listening to football commentary on the radio as I couldn’t bare to watch.
My biggest bet, however, was on Penzance to win the Triumph Hurdle in 2005. I had convinced myself that he was a good thing after three effortless novice victories and just kept backing him and backing him. I ended up with a little over £1,200 on at prices between 9/1 and 12/1, as well as a £25 reverse forecast with Faasel.
I was still at university at the time; that night was an extremely good one!
So that’s what students spend their grant money on

September 24, 2010 at 13:32 in reply to: 2011 Fixture list – delayed publication now set for Sep 23rd #319089Sandown – Finale meeting, Saturday 24 April and Sunday 25 April (Friday 23 and Saturday 24 April, 2010). Now on Easter weekend.
Easter next year is about as late as it possibly can be and just happens to coincide with the usual Whitbread weekend, so no problem there
But is the intention to run it over Easter every year?
The Saturday could be as early as March 21st i.e shortly after Cheltenham and before the National

but will be the same weekend as the Irish National (always Easter Monday) and so no horse will be able to run in both the National and Bet365 Gold Cup

A horse named Binocular ran in a handicap hurdle at Listowel last Saturday. Although running a fair race to finish 2nd off top weight, I don’t think he was the Champion Hurdle winner
Think the horse was bred in Britain
