It would be nice to see higher profile UK & IRE chasers going to Paris.

The Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris is ran over 3m5f in what’s usually testing ground. Not an ideal starting point in a campaign for our best horses.

Why on earth do people call Gordon Brown a socialist?

I’m no expert (or socialist!) but as far as I knew, socialism meant taxation in favour of the working classes. On that principal Gordon Brown isn’t really a socialist. Especially as his cabinet was so keen to save a bunch of people who did their nut playing the private investment game (NR)

I suppose a nice early test of Brown’s conviction would be to see how he responds to the continuing crisis in Burma now that it’s out of the media spotlight again.

cant believe no-one else has nominated notnowcatos performance in the eclipse, ok it wasnt a wide margin impressive win but ryan moore outthought some of the best jockeys and horses. the fact i had a wedge on it helps too. even now i simply find it astounding in a race worth so much and with the participants representing such big stables no one else seemed to walk the course!!!. mind you i wasnt complaining (saying that when he charged across the track on the home turn i was screaming at the tv and calling him allsorts) 5 minutes later i was calling him a genius, chipmunk

I believe that if Notnowcato ran with the group, he wouldn’t have finished in the first three.

I was going to nominate this performance, not for the equine reasons but for the astute judgement of Ryan Moore.

Surprised nobody mentioned Reel Buddy. Perhaps because nobody remembers him?

Two I’ve seen mentioned who may have been nominated unfairly are Celtic Swing as I remember him as the ‘at least he won a classic’ horse of 94.

Also, Hussard Collonges managed an excellent second in the 2003 Peter Marsh and was considered a lively contender for that years Gold Cup on the back of that run.

I quite like dead certs in a 2/9 shot trading at 4/5 sense of the word.

Say the conditions (ground, likely pace (or lack of), distance, shape of course) are sound and a horse is obviously head and shoulders above the rest and the form of most of the protagonists is consistant then I’m quite happy to steam in.

Naturally races such as claimers/sellers/low grade hunters/handicaps I wouldn’t touch with stolen money. First time out chasers on the other hand are usually overpriced and by and large jump better than markets give them credit for.
