I highly endorse your view on Reference Point amongst the very best.Commendable comment. However Racing post made a rectifiaction and marked the horse to 137 from 139,just as promoting Nijinsky from 138 to 140.Also remember Mill Reef beet a marginally stronger field,if you asses Blakeney’s timeform rating.Best field faced in my view was by Dancing Brave in 1986.I have added Refeence Point,at 12th spot, thanks to your comment.
How do you rank Generous who was orginally rated at 139?Won b y then record margin of 7 lengths.I also feel Nashwan was underrated by timeform ,Also ,where would you rank Troy?
Appreciate your incisive analysis.Kindly respond.
@mickeyjp Well analysed.Totally with you.Why do you feel Lester did not win the championship title more often?
@ Gladiateur Appreciate analysis
@Cork All Star What about Gordon Richards,Frank Dettori, Steve Cauthen and Pat Eddery?
An immortal has left us.Lester’s saddle artistry touched depths of divinty. No jockey could extract more from his mount , posses judgement of pace,or deliver a knockout punch in the degree of Lester. No other jockey could have steered home Roberto and The Minstrel or possibly also Sr Ivor and Nijinsky to win the Derby or Alleged and Rheingold in the Arc De Triomphe and Ribero in the St Leger. No Jockey as much emulated Muhammad Ali in resurrecting like a phoenix from the Ashes.
Without hesitation in rating him the greatest jockey ever.

June 4, 2021 at 08:19 in reply to: 40th anniversary of Shergar winning Epsom Derby -greatest ever win and horse? #1543375What do you attribute Shergar’s slow time to?Weakness of opposition? @IanDavies Overall rate Mill Reef or Dancing Brave ahead?Any better Derby performance ever?
My deepest condolences/I can’t forget his wining the Jockey’s championship in 1979 ,when he was Henry Cecil’s stable jockey.I loved his rides on Buckskin,Le Moss and Kris in that year.
He was a very astute judge in ranking Ribot as the best ever he saw, and then Sea Bird.Although he rode Brigadier Gerard he did not class his ward a better horse than Frankel or the equal of Ribot or Sea Bird.
January 4, 2021 at 11:12 in reply to: Best European racemares or fllies ever in order of merit? #1516344It was really difficult to compare eras of Enable or Pretty Polly or develop a criteria.Still I respected history even if breeding has considerably improved over the century.Arguably Treve at his best or Zarkava could have matched Enable or even Dahlia earlier.I wonder how Sceptre would have been regarded had she won the Derby.
