See you all next month for the new competition.
Well done Eddy7, and a big thanks to Bob for all the hard work he puts into the competition year in year out.
Are there still prizes for the winner of the monthly and overall? I couldn’t see it mentioned, if there is perhaps add it to the rules post, might encourage a few more to take part?
It’s not a good gesture at all when Ladbrokes’ own rule is,
"All bets placed on UK and Irish horse racing will be settled on First Past the Post".
So if I have a bet with Ladbrokes, and my horse finishes first past the post (like Grand Art did for Matthew), then I expect to be paid out without people saying it’s a ‘good gesture’.
Fair enough if this was something they decided to do on the day, but when it’s one of their actual rules then that’s a different matter altogether.
The rule isnt quite as simple as that – there are exceptions! Taking the wrong course for example wouldn’t get you a payout.
David, with all due respect, are you being serious when you said, "Getting paid out is merely a good gesture"?
I’d say it’s more something they have to do. By using the term ‘good gesture’ it’s almost as if you’re suggesting they don’t have to pay you out, but when they do we should be grateful.
It’s also nothing to do with their computers not recognising the revised result. In a Ladbrokes shop, which also uses a computer system to settle results by the way, punters were settled out on both results almost instantly the stewards revised the outcome.
The reality is that someone, somewhere hasn’t done their job properly. Simple really.
I must say I think thats wrong. I was in a shop waiting for a payout on it. The inter shop message saying that all singles and multiples on Grand Art would be paid out using the FPTP rule, was timed at 5.17pm. That was about 10 minutes after the amended result. It also said all other bets on the race would be settled correctly by the computer (BS2000 I think it said) but Grand Art bets would have to be settled manually.
Wouldn’t have thought it should have took 2 hours, but considering it was a well backed favourite, presumably ladbrokes online had thousands of bets to settle.

Big thanks to Bob and bet365
What were the prizes this year? Do you still get a trophy and free bet for the monthly and season prizes? Couldn’t find any reference to it anywhere?
Perhaps they’ve seen our all star line up.
It reads like a who’s who of the 4PP competition.
Tell Jim JTS to watch his back in the final two weeks!
agreed – however you want to too
