Hexham also have an extra meeting on Sunday 25th. The six race card gets underway at 1.45pm. The feature race is the Betfair Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) with a prize fund of £16,000 over 3 miles. Unfortunately the meeting is in the balance and already limited to hurdles races only. The current going is forcast as Heavy.

I’m glad that he has been retired and hope he has the long happy retirement that he deserves.
Is there any more news on Bewleys Berry also owned by the same connections and how he is progressing since breaking down last year?

Bewleys Berry is happy and recovering very well at friends of the Wylies. Though he will never race again, he is currently enjoying his retirement.

A shame it had to end like this for Inglis Drever. It would have been tremendous to see him bow out with a win at the festival. But at least he’s going to make a good recovery and should enjoy his premature retirement at the Wylies, where he will be in good company there, along with Lord Transcend.

All being well four for sure Denman, Kauto Star. Neptune Collonges and Star De Mohaison.

Possibly Nozic. With Gungadu, My Will and Big Bucks almost certain to run in other races. Big Bucks is almost sure to run in the World Hurdle.

A larger than life character, a great sense of humour for a guy that constantly stares death in the face. Unbelievable when he appears on ATR with his high jinks and poetry. He lives it to the max and what a great guy he is. I’d love to see Ebadiyan run a big race at the festival. Ebadiyan seems best out in front and I get the feeling he could be setting it up for the other two greys Zaynar or even Walkon. But it would bring the house down if Ebadiyan could get his head in front at the line.

Widespread frost, but it’s not severe, temperatures down to around -2. The temperatures are due to get up to around 4 degrees tomorrow after a frosty start. As far as I can see it shouldn’t make a great deal of difference to the meeting going ahead tomorrow. The Racing Post reports that there are no inspections planned. The going is forcast as soft and that would seem to be accurate.

After listening to what PN had to say more than 4 lengths would seem a cracking bet.

He regrets running Kauto Star at Haydock but he thinks the horse is as good as ever he said or words to that effect……….what you telling us PN? you never gave him enough work before Haydock or what?

It was like listening to someone making an excuse for a horse winning so easily before he runs……he’s a master at covering his backside that one is

I never clearly understood Paul Nicholls take on Kauto Star’s Haydock run, this season, he does confuse us all at times. What he meant, as is explained by him on his teletext pages today, is that he half regrets running Kauto Star at Haydock because he took a week to get over his first race in Ireland, because of the travelling to and from Ireland, it then took him two weeks to get him back to his best after that first race. Haydock came three weeks after Down Royal and he runs to his best after a break. It all seems to make a bit more sense now.

Paul Nicholls quoted on the racing Post….

DENMAN will not make his seasonal reappearance over hurdles at Wincanton on Friday, after champion trainer Paul Nicholls decided on Tuesday that the Gold Cup winner "is still about a fortnight off a run".

Denman caused a flurry of excitement when his name appeared among the entries for the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle Qualifier.

However, after he had worked at Ditcheat on Tuesday morning, Nicholls said: "If I had had another fortnight’s work into him he would have run, and the race would have suited him, but I erred on the side of caution."

On his teletext pages Paul Nicholls says…Denman is not quite ready, and there are no plans for him. But he will find some where for him in about two weeks time. He says he’s open minded and it’s a possibility that he could run over fences or hurdles if he can find a race for him, or even a racecourse gallop and then go straight for the Aon. He will talk it over with the owners.

Thanks for the link Ten Plus. It may not be the best possible out come but it is good to know they have saved her. Some very good thinking and handling from Dominick Elsworth as well.

Been working out the form of the 2:45 at Fontwell.

Does this mean he does not want it too soft?

Oh yes! Welcome Mark, to the weird and very wonderful world of the German Lake Race, or ‘Seejagdrennen’ as the natives call it. Basically it’s a steeplechse with a great big lake it the middle of it, and this one was at Bad Harzburg earlier this year.

There’s no footage of this race, but Helmac won the corresponding race last year, and it can be found here:

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

FLIPPERS LAKE RACE IS ON YOU TUBE!!!!!

Sorry ’bout that – Have a look at this, and you get the gist:

Apologies for the slightly shoddy camera work!! This is Fiepes Shuffle, aka Flipper, having his first ever run in the Bad Harzburg Lake Race, and as you see, he’s not the easiest to stop when there’s a lake!!!

Thanks for the link to the video.I’ve never seen anything like that. It looks a bit like a mixture of our chasing, eventing and cross country!

And thanks graysonscolumn, I shall have to check out Youtube a bit more often.

My ex racehorse has sadly got to be put down, but i am keen to get another. i would appreciate any information on where i could find one. I want one that is capable of having a second career as a riden horse. If anyone has any info that would be great. thanks

Hi dave. I am very sorry to hear about the demise of your horse.I know what a ghastly feeling it is.There are so many places begging for some one like you. There are two that I know of. bbobbell mentioned Greatwood, which is one of the places. There’s also Heros. The great Monsignor acts as an ambassador for them and his owner Malcolm Denmark, is their patron.

    http://www.heroscharity.org/index.htm

I know Stan and Elaine Mellor are patrons of one as well but I couldn’t for the life of me think of it. So I went to google to find out. That address is

    http://www.racehorserehoming.co.uk/

As I was at google I typed in "rehoming retired racehorses" this gives you a massive 1,910 web sites that are looking for people just like yourself. Good luck in your quest I’m certain you’ll find exactly what your looking for.

Thanks reet hard, I appreciate your commets. I have to admit to watching replays, but assuming I wasn’t actually being charged, as I, like you, have not been informed of any change to the credit in the wallet. Thanks again.

    Nice work Gerald. Good luck.

Agree bbobbell, I tend to think of this race as the old SGB and the race Arkle carried a 12st 7lbs and gave 35 lbs and a 15 length beating to Sunny Bright. We probably have the same picture, Arkle out in front over the first.

Good to see the very talented Hobbs Hill with entries, though obviously taken out of this race, but also entered in the King George, after that horrific fall at Kempton.

Trabolgan, a horse with a massive amount of promise and ability. It would be really fitting to see him back any where near his best.

I only had about £8 or £9 in my Racing Post wallet, form the old site. I can’t find any trace of the wallet on the new site? Has anyone had the same problem? Or am I missing the whereabouts of the wallet on the new site?

Yea the last report I heard was pretty much as blackfingernail says. He was given a thorough examination by the connections vet. The vet then advised six weeks box rest. That was approximately three weeks ago. They will follow the instructions and a decision will be made after the six weeks of rest, about any further racing.
